I m/cd in july and have just been prescribed Metformin. I am diabetic and before I had my DS (now nearly 13 months) I had PCOS. Has anyone got any experience of Metformin? Any successful PGs?

Some fertility clinics are now prescribing this out, often with clomid as well. Can cause upset tummy, so you might want to start one tab a day for a week, then up to 2 then up to 3 (assuming you're on 500mg).

Personally I didn't conceive with this, but didn't try it for that long either. I'm starting again on Metformin soon.

IIRC I got it on a private prescription last time and it works out even cheaper than paying on the NHS.

I was on Metformin for a bit a while back and though it didn't work for me - I know it can have good results for those with PCOS and sugar level issues.

It did cause me to have and upset stomach and to lose my appetite for a while but you get used to it. Just follwo the prescription instructions to the letter and don't try to run befpre you walk. If in doubt, call your Dr back and ask if what you are feeling is normal......cos believe me you will feel odd for a while there!

Good luck!

Thanks Runtus. I was expecting to feel ropey cos Doc warned about it but I haven't done. Was hoping to lose a few pounds but I suppose if I'm tolerating it then there's not much hope! I must have the constitution of an ox!
