Having mirena coil removed, what next?

In a few weeks i shall be having my coil removed, to ttc #3.

My questions are:

How quickly after removal will my fertility be back to normal?

Will my periods return as before?

And can someone point me in the direction of a website that will explain about working out my ovulation time?

Sorry if i sound a bit thick, but it's a few years since i did this, and i seem to have forgotten it all!!

TIA.

I conceived ds (no 3) after having my mirena coil removed last year. My periods started again straightaway and ds was conceived on the third cycle.

In terms of working out ovulation, hulababy pointed me in the direction of a good site, only I can't remember the name of it now! Hopefully she will come along and let you know

Hi; the site is Fertility Friend. It's a free site where you can enter your OV data each day and it does the rest for you.

I got pregnant with my second baby on the same month I had the Mirena coil taken out. No one could believe me, not even the doctor! Mirena does not affect your fertility so you shouldn't have any problems like with the pill.

Thanks for all your replies ladies, much appreciated.

Just got to take the plunge now, and ring the doctors!!

Hello all.
Had my mirena coil removed 2 weeks ago after 4 1/2 years. Very straight forward - loads easier than having it put in which was awful. I was expecting the worst as Family Planning couldn't do it nor could my GP because my strings had "disappeared" up beyond my cervix. Specialist was great though and had it out with no probs. Was told I could start trying for a baby immediately. I started bleeding the next day which I took as the first day of my period then used OPK as directed. Had a "surge" reading yesterday which would make it exactly 14 days from removal of mirena that I would seem to be ovulating. Will know in a couple of weeks if indeed it was successful. I am surprised that I am ovulating so quickly - didn't have a single days bleeding on the coil. Fingers crossed eh!!

Just to buck the trend, I had my Mirena taken out in June 2003 in order to conceive a fourth child. My periods came back after about 6 weeks, but were not the same as before for at least 4 years (much lighter and just odd). I had one failed pregnancy three years later and am currently 12 weeks with my second pregnancy in 5.5 years. It's certainly not instant for everyone, but I hope it goes smoothly for you.

I had mine removed in Jan 07. Totally messed up my cycles and took until Dec 07 to concieve. Sounds like I was in the minority though so fingers crossed you will not have to wait so long. Good Luck!

Been to the GP's and they have failed 4 times to remove the mirena, anyone know if this is common? Also what next? Am waiting for an appt with hospital, anyone know how much to go private? Thought it was supposed to be a simple proceedure to remove!

Hi im new on here and i to want my mirena removed to concieve but after 4 attempts by gp's and gynea's, nothing! had a scan done and coil is still in place even though was told it had fallen out, im due to see a coil specialist on friday to attempt removal, im terrified to what will happen,as the attempts of removal were sooo painfull. any advice please.. i noticed saturngirl had a good outcome.. thanks for reading x

Hi, I had my mirena out on Friday with no probs, but had a "lost" copper one removed at the hospital 15ish years ago. It was fine! The procedure may have changed, but the doctor scanned me to see where it was and then just hoiked it out in the normal way. I was very nervous but it was less painful than when it went in.

Fingers x'd for you.
