Hello,

Me and my partner want to start trying for a baby and so I came off my pill. I spoke to my doctor and she advised we waited until my cycle had returned to normal however it took 3 months for my period to return.

It's now been a further 6 weeks and again I have had no period. I don't think i'm PG as I took a test and it said negetive.

I'm really confused as I've heard a lot of people say that your periods should return into a normal cycle within a couple of months - I don't know whether I'm just overeacting. I had an abnormal smear, could this have something to do with it?

Thank-you!

Would say its nothing to do with an abnormal smear.

The pill leaves your system very quickly after you have taken the last tablet.

Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances; in this regard the GP should do blood tests asap. Common culprits include problems with the thyroid gland or a condition called polcystic ovaries. Both can cause periods to stop and or become irregular.

Do return to the GP asap and ask for blood tests to be done. You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.

Thank-you!

I think I've been frustrated and did feel the GP was rather dismissive the first time I visited.

I'll go back though, thank you for the advice.
