Changing story about how long trying

Has anyone changed their story about how long they've been trying in order to get NHS funding? I didn't know the criteria when I went for initial fertility testing, and am currently 9 months outside being eligible (you have to have been trying for 3 years and be 39 when having treatment). Is it worth going back to my GP and seeing if she can help me revise my story (I wasn't on the pill, we were using condoms)? She told me we'd be eligible for IVF but when I got to the hospital I found out I wouldn't be. I have to make my mind up in the next day or so about whether to go ahead with IVF at £4k, and am struggling with the idea anyway. However, I have already stated on my forms that we've been trying for 2yrs 3 months. Just wondered if anyone else had been in this situation?

Er, that would be fraud though no?

I guess so. Oh well, was just an idea. The consultant did suggest I ask my GP about prescribing the drugs, which would help reduce the cost.
