Candida picked up on smear - ttc

I got a call from my docs following my smear (which is ok) to say they'd found some candida. Ok fine..
I've not noticed any symptoms at all and she suggested I might not have but offered a prescription to treat it should I want to??!?

I said yes please (just in case) but wonder, am I better to wait and see how I get on this month (am CD23 of 29) before taking any drugs?

Seeing as i've not noticed symptoms, could I have had this a long time and could it have been effecting my fertiity?!

Ok, I am on the two week wait so you probably think I'm nuts to be worrying about this, but having just had day 2/22 bloods done, which came back all fine, and have been ttc for about a year.. my nerves are starting to fray!

It's just thrush.

Many people have it, I have never heard of it being a problem in terms of fertility but I might be wrong.

If you have no symptoms I really would not bother treating it.

So is it normal to have low levels of candida present then?
Receptionist who called didn't advise anything just said if they detected it they offer treatment should I want it...

afasik, many of us have the candida bascteria naturally, and it's when it gets too populous that we get thrush - think I read that on the NHS Direct site - so the fact you have it might not be something to worry about at all, of there's no symptoms.

On the other hand, the treatment is easy and painless. I'm on the 2WW now, and doused myself with Canesten last week (week 1 of 2ww). I've never heard that it messes with fertility. My AF is now a day late and I've got all sorts of non-Candida like aches - hoping for a BFP!

Candida is present all the time. Diet can be a cause of imbalance. If you are craving cakes/refined carbs/sugary foods it can be an indication. Knock these on the head and you can clear it, and eat lots of pro-biotic yogurt.

Good luck with the TTC!

I'm not one for pumping myself with chemicals unless necessary and as I have no symptoms I feel somewhat reluctant to get the treatment, let alone pay yet another prescription charge!

Especially as smear was 2 weeks ago i think I will wait a bit longer and see if anything develops both in my tummy (fingers crossed for BFP) or my nether regions! LOL

Thanks girls! :)

Doc phoned up and said if I wasn't having any symptoms then not to bother with meds as it's common to have low level candida present. :)
