I am currently 5 days late for my period. I have always (25 years) had a very reg cycle of 27 days and have only ever been late when I was pg- either m/c or my ds-aged 3.
I have done several hpt's since I became late and they are all resolutely negative. I have v sore boobs, salivation(nice), heartburn and bloating. I would've assumed that I have ovulated late and that perhaps the levels of hcg are not high enough yet if I didn't know that I only DTD once last month on cd12- my dp works away.
By my calculations if I DTD on cd 12 and the swimmers lived for a max of 5 days catching my poss ovulation on cd 17 would you expect me to show pos now? Am I deluding myself and just late?
I have always had probs TTC...m/c, blighted ovums etc and would love another dc.
Advice from anyone deeply appreciated...be honest!!

I think its the exception rather than the norm for sperm to live for 5 days but it is possible, i think you are just late and probably feeling the symptoms because you are late (and due on very soon) that said there are people (including me) for whom in certain pregnancies and for some random reason the test doesnt go positive and they are indeed pg (happened with DD2) so whilst i would be making up my mind that i was not pregnant dont totally rule out a surprise until you see AF.

Do you know when you ovulated, did you use OPK's? because if you ovulated earlier say day 14/15 then you could well be pg and it just might be taking a while to show up. Let us know what happens, really hope you get the answer you want

Thanks for answering Rosieposey. As you can imagine I have been googling every conceivable(?) scenario today...from women who never get a pos test in the whole 9 months to late ov etc...aaargghh.I did see a pos OPK on cd15...so it could still be possible? I am going to tell myself I am not pg and book an app with my GP next week- I am due to go to the fertility specialist soon so see what's up with me and the other half so he may well give me a blood test to rule it out pg.
I was interested to read you saying that your pg with your DD2 did not show positive...was that not positive at all? What did you think and how did you find out that you were indeed pg? Thanks for your help, I am becoming strangely obsessed with this, or not so strange really

No it was a few weeks though. I didnt test with DD1 till i was about 9 weeks pg (i was only 20 and in denial) but with DD2 i was about three weeks late or possibly more and went to the family planning clinic as i had an appt to have a coil put in (horse, bolted and stable door come to mind ) and i explained to the nurse that i was late but had taken quite a few tests and they were all negative so she insisted (quite rightly) that i take another one and it came up positive - that was a shock i can tell you. I have no idea why it didnt show up earlier as i had some bleeding at 7 weeks and a threatend m/c so it was a bit of a wobbly pg to start with anyway but she is 15 now and entering her last year at school

Every pg is different though, DD3 i tested positive on the day AF was due, it was very faint though but with my DS two years ago i had sore boobs 5 days before AF was due and tested 4 days before AF and every test was coming up positive, fairly clearly too. I had had a MS before him and was worried about another one so i went for a scan at 5.5 weeks and saw a hearbeat - i knew it must have just happened as i was so early on but i have a theory backed up by a couple of Midwives i have spoken to and that is that sometimes the journey to implantation can be quite long (up to 10 days) it then takes a couple (at least) of days for hcg to show up - in the case of my son i think that was a pretty quick journey down my fallopian tube and implantation was swift therefore producing a 5 day early positive (well it was 4 days but im pretty sure it would have showed up the day before too because of my sore boobs as pregnancy is the only time i get them).

Good luck with seeing the fertility specialist A blood test is sometimes the only way to find out as they are apparently more accurate than HPT's, got my fingers crossed for you!
