Could I be ovulating without having periods?

Is that a silly question?

I'm still bfing ds and periods have not yet returned. A couple of people have said that I could still get pg as I might still be ovulating, just not bleeding.

Is that true?

Can anybody explain for me?

If you ovulate but then don't concieve, you will have a period - because the release of the egg triggers hormone changes (progesterone rise), and if there is no implantation of an embryo, there is no trigger to the ovary to keep the progesterone levels high, levels fall and the womb lining comes away.

BUT - you won't necessarily know you HAVE ovulated, as the period comes after (if that makes sense) - so you don't get a sign at the start of a cycle that an egg will be released this month, and if you are BF, you don't know when you might start to ovulate, so you could get pg before your first period.

Ahh okay, so I would have to be lucky and happen to get the very 1st egg to be released for nearly 3 years.

It does happen though, it's how my ds1 came into being. Was very funny when the dietician asked me for 'the date of your last period' and i gave him a date 21 months earlier
