A request for TMI - a new TTCer worrying!

Ok - I am sure I am normal. But have convinced myself that there is something wrong....advice please!

Warning: TMI coming up!

My DH and I are TTC. After "doing the deed" as soon as I stand up (or even before) loads of DH's semen comes out again. I've read that the sperm is meant to stay in the cervix before making its way up the fallopian tubes. But is it normal for it to seem like all of it comes out again?

I know people talk about putting bum on a pillow, but is this essential?

Thanks!!!

no, not essential, otherwise there'd be no unplanned pregnancies
I don't think there's any evidence it works, but it can't hurt
And yes, that's normal

ShowOfHands · 11/07/2010 17:42

Yes, utterly normal.

You don't need to do any of that legs in air, bum on pillow business.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/07/2010 17:47

Please do not worry yourself unduly; what is happening here is completely normal. Some seminal fluid will leak out post intercourse.

Enough sperm will get to the cervix from where it won't escape. Legs in the air post sex is unnecessary, its a myth that often gets banded about.

Ok, thanks girls, really appreciate the reassurance. I figured that the legs in the air wasn't essential. But it was worrying me that my body wasn't holding onto the sperm long enough to get anywhere!

have a look at mooncups. i used them after sex for TTC reasons and also because I dont like the stuff oozing out ewwww.

www.mooncup.co.uk/

But the excess is supposed to come out isn't it? We aren't supposed to be smuggling leftover semen around in our vaginas are we?

Miffles · 11/07/2010 18:09

hmmm..not convinced by the mooncup thing - esp straight after sex! I doubt the excess, sitting in the cup, will do any good. I was worried that other people didn't have the excess come out quite so quickly...but it seems i am normal!!

at sperm smuggling

ok tmi as you asked...when I'm fertile I find that not as much of my partner's semen comes out after sex as when I'm not fertile. Have deduced from my survey of one that it is because my cervix is open and most of it goes in there.

Post-ovulation, I find that even if I'm lying down I can feel it trickling out and forming the oh-so-delightful wet patch.

Personally, I wouldn't do the mooncup thing. Your body rejects it naturally for a reason.
