Competitions

New to this, but I've won something!

I'm off work with a bad back at the moment, so whilst DS was at nursery a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd enter a few competitions.

I got a call today saying I'd won!

www.gaydio.co.uk/win/win-a-luxury-2-night-stay-at-all-4-uk-kimpton-hotels/

The call actually came through on my old number (new phone yesterday). I don't normally answer unknown numbers but I was holding my new phone so quickly Googled the number, remembered the competition and answered.

Apparently they phone a few people and the first to actually answer wins!

I'm very excited, can you tell? I've stayed in a hotel three times in the last decade, and two of those were Travelodge. We don't have a lot of money.

This link reads like you get to stay at each of the hotels, but surely that's not right and it's just a stay at one of them.

I apologise for the long post. DH is at work and I want to share my joy!

They asked for my email address on the phone but I haven't heard anything since. The phone call was at 11am.

The website looks legitimate, doesn't it? I'm not getting my hopes up for nothing am I? I've never experienced any luxury in my whole life so it feels too good to be true.

I am always wary about them kind of things as I got scammed many years ago into thinking I had won a motorbike. Through a comp I had entered in a magazine.
Ask family and friends if the have heard of the company / comp , hopefully someone on here will speak ip too.

If I were you I would not use the link they sent but Google the company , look for it at company house , search different sites for management/ ceo etc
If it all looks good , contact the company from a link you have found ( not the one you have been sent ) and check it out throughly.
It goes without saying don't give them and bank / credit card etc details unless you are 100 % sure it's legitimate

I hope it is all genuine and you have a great time.

The radio station and the hotel group definitely exist, and the number they called from appears to be genuine.

I'll email the station for confirmation, I think. I'll be devastating if I've been duped. I fail to see what they have to gain from a scam though. I haven't entered any card details or anything daft.

The competition also appears on their Facebook page.

Oh, I do hope I'm being paranoid.

I can't sleep tonight so I thought I'd give an update here. I know it isn't of interest to most, but I'm incredibly excited.

The prize was indeed legitimate. We were able to choose dates to suit us at each of the four hotels.

Our first jaunt is Mid-november to London and we'll be child-free for our time away, thanks to my mum who has agreed to mind our toddler, and my teen who will mind the house and pets, and probably host a party! The idea of having a jaunt away without chores is completely foreign territory.

We've booked train tickets for London so DH doesn't have to drive (I can't).

Any tips on what to see in the British Museum? It's a five minute walk away. I've visited once before but it was a fleeting visit.

We'll be heading to Edinburgh and Glasgow (in the same trip) in January with our toddler in-tow, and then rounding the luxurious windfall off in early March with a child-free weekend in Manchester.

I asked the universe for something to help me through the dark months, and oh boy did it deliver!

Oh wow! What an amazing update! Very jealous and impressed!!

If you like London theatre, and are so inclined, there is an online half price ticket booth that you can book tickets on the day which makes it quite affordable!

Loads to see at the British Museum. I'd make a special effort to see the Egyptian mummies and also the Elgin marbles so you can see what all the fuss is about. Not sure if you still have to book. Normally I'd say take a boat trip from Westminster to Greenwich - the tourist boats are about the same price as Uber and much better because the commentary is so good. Might be chucking it down though. The Christmas lights will be on - Oxford Street, Marylebone High Street,
Bond Street, Regent Street, Carnaby Street. Selfridges windows are usually wonderful. Covent Garden and Soho are also in easy walking distance.
