Hi all!! Just introducing myself as the Mumsnet Competition Manager. I would love to hear any suggestions as to the types of comps and the types of prizes you are all interested in.
Off to school run and then work so will check back later.

Ones that have me as the winner.

jodee · 14/09/2004 16:17

champs, I've run out of things to review! Is there any other ways that we could enter the comps - multiple choice/tiebreakers???

Tortington · 14/09/2004 22:34

i'll just say please take into consideration that some of us have older children too. i know its been mentioned before but i certainly have felt excluded from competitions on mumsnet becuase baby or toddler questions/reviews & prizes just dont apply anymore and teenage kids are a bit funny about where to buy clothes if its not highstreet or going to lego land for instance.
high street sports shop googs would come in handy and are pretty generic.

is there such as thing as an Ebay voucher? that would be fab!

highstreet vouchers

food store shooping vouchers - asda or coop for eg.

if you could organise me winning a Bentley ( or something equally shocking) for my sons school prom 2006 i would be eternally in your debt

I would like ones where I win too - have given up entering now as I never win

WideWebWitch · 14/09/2004 22:42

Hi Champs, what about some grown up prizes? Like cases of wine or stuff from The White Company or Benefit cosmetics or Cath Kidston or hotel vouchers? Can you tell I've been browsing online tonight? For that lot you can have every tip in my brain and a review of every product I've bought. Ever.

woodpops · 15/09/2004 08:23

I'd like some confiramtion that our competition entry has been recieved. I enter most of the comps thorugh the links whether it be a review or a tip and have never seen any of my tips on the tips page IYKWIM.

ladywallopofcod · 15/09/2004 08:38

yes make me win

lou33 · 15/09/2004 09:17

The current comp is perfect for Ks I think.

Www - the last competition (the Gruffalo one) included £50 of White Company vouchers!

SenoraPostrophe · 15/09/2004 10:04

I would like:

  • clarification of rules/eligibility. I enter anyway, but I guess I could be disqualified for living abroad. I could give a UK address though!

  • more options to enter: I've already reviewed everything I own that's worth reviewing (and some things that aren't). Plus sometimes the prize is for baby gear, but you have to review a trike or something. I don't bloomin know: I have babies! I always have difficulty with tips too - mostly because I've already posted them on talk.

  • more "skill" competitions. I like the caption comps, but also we could have things like best answers to particular questions (I probably still wouldn't win, but would prefer losing through my lack of eloquence to losing randomly), best photo, spot the teenager, smack the pingu??? Or KS's song prize. But then ks would obviously win.

  • prizes: holiday prizes always put me off as we couldn't take it. But more general, voucher type prizes would be good - for kids stuff and adult stuff.

sis · 15/09/2004 11:30

I've got a tip that other mumsnetters have told me not to submit until there is comp which I want to win (not baby stuff)!

Justine (mumsnet) · 15/09/2004 13:08

Hello all,
There isn't really any trick to winning competitions: we pick a reviewer number - not a name - at random and check the entry to see if the review/ tip has actually been sent and is not nonsense - so it's just luck I'm afraid but of course you can't win if you ain't got a ticket, as they say, and the more tickets you have, the better your chances.
We take on board all your valid points about having more diverse entry requirements and prizes. That's why we've introduced the caption competition and that's partly why we've recruited Champs - so we can have more competitions and so there's something for everyone. So please bear with us we are working on it .

On specific points, Senorapostrophe you can enter if you're abroad but most sponsors will only guarantee to post to a UK address (which you have, so you're fine). Woodpops I'll talk to Tech about the confirmation and see whether he can manage it. Rest assured if you post a relevant review or tip then you are entered. There are a few reasons why things don't appear on site immediately: 1. we have a build-up of lots of tips 2. your tip may be the same as one already posted by someone else 3. we only update reviews periodically but there will do in time. Thanks everyone for sending stuff in - we do appreciate it - it's the volume that makes the reviews so good. And do keep your ideas coming for prizes - we promise to try follow up as many as we can.

Tortington · 15/09/2004 14:31

does that mean we can put in as many tips as we like to win a prize?

Justine (mumsnet) · 15/09/2004 15:06

Yes it does mean that - the more entries, the more times you are entered - BUT they have to be valid tips or they don't count. You won't for instance win anything with a tip such as "don't let your child go to school with nothing on" or "try and give your children breakfast in the morning - it worked for me!" We've had a few like that over the years.

Tortington · 15/09/2004 15:44

ok

champs · 16/09/2004 00:45

ty all!! I'll try to put theese sugestions into practice.
