Congratulations to ilovemydogandMrObama, katiewalters, vongole who are all runners up in our Silver Spoon competition with Phaidon books. Each has won a copy of The Silver Spoon. The comp was run in conjunction with Gransnet and the overall winner of the comp was gransnetter grayjill whose handed down recipe Grannies bakewell tart was judged to be the best, and she's won a cookery holiday to Italy.

Here's what Silver Spoon said about the recipe:

'We selected grayjill's Grannie's Bakewell Tart because it's a classic British dish that pleases everyone, adults and children alike. It wasn't an easy decision, however, as the recipes submitted were of a wonderful standard.

The tart is easy to make, and its popularity marks a return to an appreciation of good British cooking - which is something we should all be excited about.'

Check your inboxes for more info on how to claim the prizes

Hi AnnMumsnet, was lucky enough to win a set of India Knight novels - emailed details to RachelMumsnet on 1/12 but haven't heard anything and quite wanted to give them to wife for Christmas :-). Think they were supposed to come directly from Penguin?

So, my 'concierge service for a year' (Plum Day 5 comp) is actually just 12 free requests from them.

They could book 6 tables and pay 6 bills and that would be it. Not To Be Ungrateful - really - but have been dreaming of handing off all my admin to someone else for all of 2012!

How to make the most?

Yes Shade is new-ish(pronounced Sharday)
Lucky - Maybe you could make a list of 6 tables that you wanted booked and hand that over as 1 request?

Report
Collision · 29/12/2011 21:13

Surely Shade as in rhymes with Glade.

Please be kidding at Sharday!

I don't understand why anyone would want someone to book tables for them? Do people actually get paid to do that?

Report
gazzalw · 04/01/2012 09:14

Totally agree Katkitya - by the time you've phone them to ask them to book the table you could have done it yourself! And as if you'd really be booking tables six at a time.....(if only!)

OliviaMumsnet · 04/01/2012 12:28

Katkitya- think concierge services like that have an 'in' at tricky-to-get-into places so a "mere mortal" might not be able to get a table at RestaurantDuJour on e.g. a Saturday at 8pm but would be offered the 10pm slot but a concierge would get the booking, iykwim

I know - like I can afford to go to the Ivy (or eat out more than 6 times a year.)

Would be worth getting small stuff like this done if it was going to be done all year, but not if I only have 12 goes of it, so restaurant bookings are a bad example.

Still don't know what my 12 requests should be. Might start a thread somewhere else as don't want to hijack this one.
