Greener travel options

I realise the truly green option is to only travel where you can walk. I was wondering what the carbon emissions of a xa. 500 mile journey in the British Isles, 50 miles ferry the rest train/coach are?

Biking is not so bad, and already expands your options :)

You can probably google a carbon emission calculator, or ask the public transport companies. The precise reply, I imagine, would also depend on whether you are travelling on a diesel engine train or an electric one; staying in a hotel with all the lights on the whole day and heating/airco blasting at full vs passifhaus standard accommodation or camping, etc.
