Swap mountains for beach?

We have a 3-bed holiday house in Tyrol, 20 mins from skiing in winter, very near lake swimming in Summer and fabulous hiking at any time. Sleeps 7.

Would love to swap for something close to a beach, any time during any school holidays (except Feb half-term).

We've got a 3 bed apartment on the Aegean coast in between Mavisehir and Altinkum. Walking distance of one beach/beach cafes or you could take the free courtesy bus. Poolside on nice complex with all facilities. Masses of things to do locally and thd friendly.e area is very chilThe budget airlines are just beginning to reach turkey. New services to Bodrum will start next summer from Stanstead & Manchester from £104 return. We tend to go for scheduled daytime flights from Heathrow for £200 each.

How developed is the area?

Hi Sophy,

Mavisehir is very quiet. Basically a small village with a working fishing harbour and well established holiday villas mainly owned by Turkish people. The beaches there are really uncrowded even in summer. Mainly Turkish only spoken.

The apartment is in a 'green area'. Planned to be very low density development. The last phase in our complex is currently being built. We were not troubled by the odd building noise in the background from time to time this year, but you could always wait to visit until all is absolutely finished.
The area is very quiet - heard more sheep and goats from the local farm than any else.

Altinkum is the more developed resort. Masses of holiday houses and flats all built turkish style, close together. However, We've been there in April, May and October half terms and it is extremely quiet. It is a very low beach resort compared to places like Kusadasi, Bodrum or Marmaris. No problem with pitching the suntent right up against the waves in the middle of the main beach. There's English Sunday roast at English pub prices if you want it, but next door you are likely to find a typical turkish lokanta serving main meals for around £3-4. We also spend a lot of evenings amongst the locals in the inland town of Didim, where prices are cheap, food is great and we just chill in the local park by the fountains and children's play area.

We actually came to the conclusion that being near a developed area is good as development means infrastructure. There is an amazing range of excellent value day trips to ancient sites, other towns, Inland lakes, aquaparks, even the greek islands of Kos and Samos. All trips collect and return you to the door, so very convenient when travelling with children.
