Hi,
im currently in the process of a house exchange with a family member. We are waiting for final signing off from a manager, then we need to sign for the keys in around 4 weeks time.

this has been ongoing since the end of June, we want to be in before school starts as we both have children. I’m aware if we move before it is a breech of tenancy and we could be evicted. Has anyone swapped before signing? Obviously I don’t want to lose our home, but for weeks we’ve been living out of boxes with no TVs or anything and it’s really effecting our mental health being really cramped in. My house is very small, especially after putting everything in boxes.

advice please 😖

why did you pack up everything so early?

confusedmomma91 · 21/08/2024 09:46

We were asked to, it was on the list of things we had to do!

of course you need to pack to move

but you packed way too early given you haven’t even got sign off

unpack a few things that will make day to day life easier

There are all kinds of issues if you go and live in the exchange partners house without signing the tenancies over. What if the new tenant in your house has a fire, doesn't pay the rent on her old house, trashes the place, has drug parties....or decides she doesn't like it and wants to come back before the papers are signed? So many things can go wrong, it's not worth it.

Hi sluj, it's with a family member so no worries with parties, or rent paying etc.

Why is it taking them so long? Are both rent accounts up to date? Really shouldn’t be this long.

Don’t swap beforehand they may refuse the exchange. Seen many fall out between exchangers too! Plus any benefits not valid.

There's 1 person doing all signings I believe! And annual leave etc

Thanks for the advice guys. We will stay put until official!
