Seller not giving a completion date

we are currently buying a house and our solicitors asked us for a preferred completion date. The sellers rejected our proposed date and said that date was too soon for them but have not given a counter date? It’s been over a week since we gave a proposed date and have been on to our solicitors to get them to chase the sellers to give a date for over a week. Is this unusual for a seller to do this? Not giving a counter date and just saying “that date doesn’t work for us” seems a bit like a red flag to me

Potentially are they waiting for information from the place they are buying ?

What do you mean by 'a red flag' ?
Selling and buying is stressful. People are different.

Where are you in the process , as in, how far into the process ?
