So, after trying unsuccessfully for the past two months searching for a house as a single mum with 4 kids I thought I would seek advice here. Currently we live in Manchester, and having split with my ex of 25 years after he had an affair I am selling the family home and want a fresh start for myself and my children. I am flexible, ideally would like to be within reasonable commuting distance for contact visits but rather than that making it easier, its actually harder. I have been looking in Lincolnshire, Doncaster, Oswestry, Telford, Welshpool but I know nothing about these areas. Obviously I know everywhere has its good and less good parts, but I am more interested in communities and services, schools etc. So, if you could live anywhere in the UK (South probably out of my budget) and you were starting again where would you go? TIA

Zero advice, just wanted to say good luck moving on and up.

Take a look at Pendle, Lancashire. Well connected to Manchester, cheaper housing, lots of beautiful countryside and pretty villages.

Southport, direct train line to Manchester, near the coast, lovely parks and good schools

Also, just over into West Yorkshire, have a look at Halifax and Todmorden and Bingley. Good schools, lively historic towns, well connected to Leeds, Bradford and Manchester.
