Private consultant

Would you expect to be having to chase a private consultant for results of tests. Currently on steroids that you can’t just stop suddenly and was expecting to be contacted once he’d reviewed some test results with a plan of next steps.

His medical secretary isn’t easy to get hold of or doesn’t respond and I’m getting to the crux point where steroids will run out.

Not sure what to do but especially so when I’ve spent a lot of money

When did they say they would give you the test results? Just trying to gauge how late they are.

He said he’d review them as soon as he received them and that was last Wednesday

I guess he hasnt had the results back yet then. Im sure he wants to be paid for the work so theres no reason for it to be delayed orher than waiting for the test results.

I would enquire. You should at least get back an email that says the results aren’t back yet. You just need to know what is going on and to have a likely timeframe. Sometimes good communication is all that’s needed and as a private patient it would concern me if it wasn’t happening. Did they give you an indication of how long it would take to get the results back? It will vary from test to test.

It was an ultrasound and doctor who did it said results would be back with consultant last Wednesday so it’s been a week

I run out of steroids next Tuesday so need a plan before then

Emailed medical secretary (after trying to call) on Monday and no reply. I’m going to hope I get a call today but if not I’ll have to really ramp things up tomorrow.

I’ve really not been impressed by communication throughout all of this.

I’m always chasing private consultants. Especially if they don’t have an efficient secretary/team.

If I don’t hear from consultant by Monday I’m going to have to hope GP will dispense more steroids

Does the Consultant work privately at a particular hospital, if so, ring the hospital direct, they will know when they are next in and maybe have another number for him. Have you googled the Consultant, sometimes you can find more contact details.
