Surgery for herniated disc

Hello, just looking to discuss/share experiences with this type of surgery.
I had an operation last week to have a herniated disc removed..pain in my leg has gone and I'm no longer limping so that's great but still have numbness there. Has anyone had any experience of this? How long did it take you to get back to 'normal' 🤔

It can take up to a year for the nerve to fully heal. I had numbness and a cold feeling in my foot for about 9 months post discectomy

Thanks for your answer! Yes,my foot is still numb and feels cold,I was told it could take a while and that everyone is different but that seems a long time! Hopefully you haven't had anymore problems!

Nerve regeneration is a very slow thing. Are you having physio?

Not yet. I was just looking online to see how long I should wait to go to physio, I can't remember the doctor mentioning how long to wait after surgery! So far,I've been out for a couple of short walks. My leg and back hurt quite a bit after the walk so haven't done much in 2 days since

My surgeon advised to go to physio at 3/4 weeks post-op. You should also be doing the nerve glide exercises at home at this point. Short walks throughout the day are best - you really do need to keep moving, if you don’t the nerve pain will worsen and scar tissue can build up.
