Unbearable back pain

For the last few days I have had severe back pain, lower and on my left. It was easing but I've woken again this morning to pain that is severely restricting my movement (the sort that catches your breath and makes you go argh) I have got stuck trying to manoeuvre off the chair at least twice and can't bend down, even if using my knees/arms as leverage.
I have been rubbing 10% ibuprofen into the area and taking paracetamol, it eases a little. Pain is radiating down my leg but this isn't my typical sciatic pain that I'm used to, it's going much higher.
I have a young child, with no support, so resting is not an option.
I believe this is due to car travel, we've done around 800 miles in the last week or so.
Any advice appreciated as have a trip to London on the train planned for Saturday!

How long has this been going on - if its chronic I'd see the dr

If you are able to, pay to see a physio privately. I've had to do the same as I hurt my back running. I've had 2 sessions and it's feeling much better than it was. Back pain is horrible.

Could be a bulging disc. For mine I use codeine and Naproxen and a hot water bottle under the area. You need to see a Dr.
