New pain in shins

I’ve had a problem with my lower spine for about 10 years that causes referred pain in my right buttock, thigh and knee. I’ve had physio, have exercises and can manage as long as I don’t sit for too long or do any form of high impact exercise. But in addition I’ve just started getting intense aches in both my shins - but more on the left than the right. The pain doesn’t travel - it’s a different type of pain to the hip/knee - more of a diffuse ache. But I find it much harder to manage - it’s like having toothache in my shins. Paracetamol helps a bit but not much. Googling just comes up with shin splints but tbh I don’t think I do anywhere near enough exercise to get this. Any ideas before I try to get a GP appt next week?

Have you changed your usual footwear, recently?

I did wear some trainers without my orthotics for a couple of days last week - but I had the pain before that. I’ve also done some basic strength exercises - just very simple things like chair rises, calf raises etc - it’s a programme designed for older women ( I’m 63). It’s incorporates stretches so I don’t think it’s that - but maybe it is? I don’t want to become frail as a result of not being able to exercise.

Update - had a GP appt today and she referred me for a scan to rule out a DVT! Scan is on Friday and I've got to take blood thinners until then. So glad I went!

Any update OP? I have the sam awwe pain you describe,,!

Yes - I went for the scan last week and it was clear, so none the wiser. They suggested I stopped taking the blood thinners and see if the pain returned, which it didn’t. So they suggested I have a blood test to check cholesterol, which is happening next week ( in case the issue is narrowed arteries) and just to ring for another scan if the pain comes back.
