How long can it take for wisdom tooth extraction to heal and not feel pain or throbbing it’s been 3 weeks. No infection or dry socket

That's quite a long time to still be in pain/discomfort. I had a molar out and it stopped hurting after a couple of days.

Hi OP, can I ask how long did your pain last in the end? Assuming you're better now which I hope you are!
DH had a wisdom tooth out nearly 2 weeks ago. Dry socket and infection ruled out but pain is so bad he's not sleeping and since dentist visit yesterday to check over he's in even more pain (he says from opening wide for an xray) 😟

Oh god, that's bad. I'm sorry you've had a rotten time of it too.

He went to A&E yesterday, which was a mistake. They just confirmed it is not infected and is healing well - how they know that I can't tell as his face is huge and he can barely open his mouth! No one has been very caring TBH, I think they think he's making a fuss.

It does feel bit like GP/Drs aren't interested - the GP literally said "We don't do mouths" and then the dentist is a bit useless. She told him to take paracetamol as its anti inflammatory and not ibuprofen which isn't! 🤔It's times like this when you just don't trust anyone.

To me it feels like he has an infection brewing and some anti-bs would help, but they have flat out refused on all fronts. He had a 3 day of anti-bs straight after the extraction, but I really feel that should have been 7 days.
He has no temp because he is so dosed up, he did have a night of sweats, but that has abated now. His face is very swollen, with pressure behind his eye and in his temple. He got slightly better after 3/4 days but then worse again.

He's 45, and a self employed builder. He's now looking at a 3rd week off work, and has barely slept more than an hour at a time day or night.

He's taking painkillers sensibly now, but he had been taking way too many as nothing touched the pain for more than an hour which was worrying.

Thing is he is so stoic normally with a high threshold for discomfort, so when I see him like this I know he's really ill. He famously argued with his mum about going to school for sports day when he was 8, she said he had to go to the Dr instead as he was clearly in pain - turned out he had appendicitis!

I do so hope it is not infected. If they said recovery might be horrific at least you'd be prepared for it and not keep thinking the worst.
