Hi,

I have been prescribed codeine throughout my pregnancy for chronic pain. I am due to have my baby in the next couple of weeks and I am starting to panic about the babies withdrawal.

Has anybody been through this before and can give me any advice on what they did for your baby if they did have withdrawal symptoms and how long you was in hospital for ?

i honestly feel so so guilty for taking these throughout but I can’t cope with the daily pain without

Please speak to your GP and your midwife ASAP. They will be able to give you advice and a plan to deal with any issues.Hope everything goes well

I have spoke to them and they’ve explained about the NAS observations and what they would look out for, I just wanted other peoples personal experiences that have been through it really x

How did you get on @Vic1989 ? Been looking at codeine in pregnancy posts and wondered if your baby ended up needing observations and how long for?

I'm taking codeine regularly due to SPD albeit not the highest dose and can't seem to find how they judge when babies need NAS observations - I really don't want a postnatal stay if can help it!

Hey, so they did monitor her for 24 hours but she was absolutely fine, she had no signs of withdrawal and we was let home as soon as the 24 hour observations were completed.

Thanks for the reply! 24 hours I could probably deal with, the mentions of 72 hours had me a bit stressed tbh.
Hope you and your baby are doing well ☺️
