Headache Day 10

Prone to headaches but usually after a week, the worst ones go.

I'm on day 10 of the worst headache I have ever had. It's at the front of my head and it eases off an hour after painkillers for a couple of hours (still there but tolerable). Its been waking me up in middle of the night. Have been taking both paracetamol and ibuprofen every 6 hours to allow for the dose I might need to take in the middle of the night.

Went to docs on Friday and was given amitriptyline to take at night which hasn't done anything except make me a bit tired.

Any advice?

That sounds rotten OP. I have headaches that linger and take amiltriptyline to help. I tend towards a paracetamol and aspirin combo but have on occasion used cocodamol for any the are particularly painful.

I also drink lots of fluids and find that a back/neck massage can help. I also take magnesium citrate which so far is proving helpful in reducing headaches.

Good luck. You have my sympathy...

I find aspirin better for headaches than ibuprofen. Did the GP not prescribe migraine tablets? Headaches are a symptom of something else, tiredness, dehydration etc so painkillers, water and sleep should be helping

Thanks both, that's really helpful. I've tried the amitriptyline for 2 nights now and had no joy. Not sure if I should give docs a call in the morning as this has been debilitating to the point of having to take time off work.

Amytrip take a few weeks to kick in. Keep going with it. It isn't like a normal pain killer.
