Health anixety sufferer here. I am 28 year old never smoked what are the chances of lung cancer?? I have back/left shoulder pain that can radiate down my arm and I also feel I can’t take a full breath sometimes when yawning. I’m very anixious and want to try avoid another spiral of Heakth anixety!

Have you ever had any help for your anxiety?

TeamSleep · 30/06/2023 21:32

It sounds like you’re having a panic attack, take deep breaths and know that it will pass.

Feeling that you can't take a full breath is often a symptom of hyperventilation. In this case you can't breath in any further because your lungs are already full! This can also cause pain in your chest, due to the muscles being stretched. Hyperventilation can also give you pins and needles in your arms and hands.

I'm sure you know that hyperventilation is likely to be a symptom of your anxiety.

For now, practice sitting or lying somewhere peaceful. Put a hand on your tummy and the other hand on your breastbone. Make a conscious effort when you breathe in to try to make the hand on your tummy move more than the hand on your chest. It can take a bit of practice but is a good way of "resetting" the breathing pattern and breaking out of a hyperventilation spiral.

Sounds more likely to be muscular to me. Might be worth seeing a physio?

Thank you I am seeking help as it really ruins my life. I was worried as this is a constant feeling not just when I’m anxious? Is it low chances ? I still exercise regularly
