Chronic pain

How can I help my friend?

My friend of many years is in chronic pain. She has had various bowel related surgery (not cancer) but nothing has worked and she is in chronic pain all day and night. She can’t sit down, is on maximum pain relief and is just relieved to get through each day, take a sleeping tablet and get through the night. It all starts again when she wakes up.
She is strong, brave and does not complain. She has spent thousands of pounds that she does not have, trying to find relief.
I visit when she is up to it but often does not answer texts or calls as she must be having a terrible day. She has been to the pain clinic today and has been offered a nerve drug that only helps 30% of patients. There is no other road to go down now.
How can I help her? I am at a loss. She is such a lovely person and does not deserve this kind of life. What can I do? Has anybody got any ideas or suggestions that I could try to help her in this desperate situation?

I really don’t know what to suggest (not practical I know) but the fact you care and want to help is so important.
Does she have IBD? I don’t know how to help with pain management but try to support her and her decisions.

Tell her to consult her GP/consultant re the gimmicks she buys and they will tell her she is throwing away the money she gets.

You could help her, serious help by always directing her to her GP and or consultant.

She has regular contact with her GP and consultant, and has paid thousands to have surgery privately.

Help her look into pain clinics. They have been life changing for my best friend.

If she can afford to go private I would. Its a long wait on the NHS.
