Medical cannabis

Anyone else here tried medical cannabis?

I'm currently trying it. I suffer from chronic pain from ankylosing spondylitis with lots of peripheral symptoms.

I tried 9 different anti inflammatory drugs and lot of others for pain.

The clinic I spoke to were really helpful. I got my prescription about a month ago.

It is helping with the joint pain and tendonitis pain and stiffness. I've stopped using other forms of pain relief and I sleep better so feel less tired.

Anyone else?

Yes, Very good point, I didn't think about the human misery side of illegal cannibis. Will stick with the legit stuff.

Vecnasnurse · 29/08/2022 21:41

@Sibleycress Search Dank Bakery on Instagram. You have to jump through a few hurdles before placing an order but well worth it. A word of warning, the edibles are delicious but whatever you do, don't scoff them all at once! Start with tiny amounts and increase slowly. Edibles begin to kick in after 1-2 hours and peak around 3 hours. You can always take more, but you can never take less!

Karabish · 30/08/2022 10:48

Thank you @Vecnasnurse@Vecnasnurse m

Karabish · 30/08/2022 12:12

@Vecnasnurse . Apologies, the last message I sent too soon. Will try to find them!

MilliwaysUniverse · 31/08/2022 20:10

You can definitely take it to the Netherlands - my chap went there recently. He said that Sapphire recommended getting a certificate from the government (can't remember which department I'm afraid, maybe DHSC?) that allows you to take it to countries that are not so lenient.

TheHobbitMum · 31/08/2022 20:21

I'm with sapphire too to help my rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. I take cbd & thc oil plus vape the flower using the mighty medic+ vape.
II've vastly reduced my use of opioids and find it helps so, so much. I'm on the access scheme so get the reduced costs in exchange for research

hhighly recommend chronic pain sufferers to give it a go

CherryRipe1 · 31/08/2022 23:33

Fantastic @TheHobbitMum I'm glad it helped you! I've got a connective tissue disease too & neuro issues so hoping medical cannabis helps with the pain. I'm most likely going with Sapphire and just waiting for my care summary from the GP which can take a month, so to tie me over might get some legal CBD from Savage Cabbage, who's products come highly recommended by an extended family member who also has fibromyalgia.

thesootherfairy · 01/09/2022 08:21

@TheHobbitMum which flower do you get from Sapphire? I have EMT1 and EMC1

OP posts:
TheHobbitMum · 01/09/2022 10:42

@thesootherfairy I have EMT1 😀

thesootherfairy · 01/09/2022 11:11

Aha @TheHobbitMum
I like that one. It helps with joint pain
I want to find one which helps for muscular spasms too. I may ask at my next appointment

I buy edibles from Dank bakery. Remember the postie that ate too many brownies? 😁 Its the same company.

Their products are really high quality so definitely recommend them for anyone jumping through the hoops of trying to get a prescription. The only downside is they don't state the strength of the products (legal reasons maybe?) so it takes a while to figure out your dose.

Just been on the website. Is this legal? How do they get away with it if not? I have lupus and would love to try but don't want to get in trouble!

Vecnasnurse · 01/09/2022 13:57

I don't think it's legal, no. They direct you to a secure messaging app and you have to provide a screenshot of your conversation with them on Insta. When you get the delivery there is no return address.

It's a very well respected company though with great reviews. Some online edible sellers use synthetic cannabis, or spice, that can give horrible side effects so its important to do the research.

thesootherfairy · 01/09/2022 14:02

@BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ
The edibles via Dank etc are not but you can get a legal prescription privately and that solves the issue.

I did and it was life changing
I used the medical cannabis clinic but their service was dire and their meds more expensive

Saphire the best clinic apparently but I've had issues being able to get my medical records into their hands so haven't started using it again since I had my baby in march
(Stopped before conceiving and didn't use during pregnancy)

Was the happiest and most calm I've ever been in life and also the most pain free I had been for six years

I used the oil, it was expensive but incredible quite a high dose

They also prescribe literally the weed but you would need to smoke or vape it and that has different psychotic impacts to the oil IME

Best money ever spent on my health.

Tom704 · 02/09/2022 02:41

Behind every pain, there is a cause. There are reasons why your muscles are sore or why you are experiencing joint pain. In some cases, you might be required first to sort out the cause of pain so that you can get rid of the pain.

Thanks for this thread @thesootherfairy , I know it's old! But I've just been googling. .. I have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, so have been using cannabis (I grow my own, I have always been a fan) to alleviate nausea. I'm running out however & won't be able to grow until next summer, so I've given Integra a try as I'm on PIP so hopefully could get on the Access21 scheme.

I do also currently get cannabis through friends, & edibles via one of the Instagram-type companies mentioned above, or other, ahem, means — but I'm not too comfortable being on the wrong side of the law. Oil is very expensive wherever you source it from; and sourcing it via a clinic actually looks cheaper.

It is the only thing that lessens my debilitating nausea from chemo — absolutely none of the conventional antiemetics prescribed to me work. It also helps with sleep & sometimes anxiety - sometimes not for the latter though, but given everything I'm going through I'm not surprised.

I'm getting more and more joint pain as I had a nasty surgical menopause, & the next line of treatment I'm due to go on will exacerbate this, so I'm trying to get ahead of the game. Almost at the end of a very long course of gruelling chemo & I have no quality of life at the moment. This has to change as I have a 4 year old.

Thanks again and good luck to everyone who is trying this route too for pain.

AutumnCrow · 01/10/2022 11:25

Good luck to you too, @mowly77 - you sound like you have a heck of a lot going on there. Flowers

thesootherfairy · 01/10/2022 15:26

@mowly77

I went to the clinic because I didn't want to break the law either. Besides I didn't know enough about cannabis to do it any other way.

If you're keen to keep cost low, go with Sapphire. No repeat prescription charges £50 four times a year for a check up or if you want to make changes to medication.
Sapphire are very good. Extremely cheap and efficient. They like to offer cannabis products made by Adven. That is because Adven and Sapphire are all owned by Curaleaf who also owns the pharmacy.
They can afford to charge less because they make money on dispensing and the products. I'm fine with that
It allows people on a budget to access it.
They have an outstanding rating from the CQC.

The internet is full of chats about clinics and their dry herb products etc. I found lots on Reddit. However a lot of that seems to be people who are more interested in "tasty weed" than trying to escape from gnawing pain and nausea.

If you want and can afford a higher quality service, Integro are meant to be amazing and efficient. Appointments are not that much more but they charge for repeat prescriptions.

If you want an even broader Functional medicine approach integrated into a medical cannabis clinic, try Dr Gordon at the Resilience clinic. But this would be higher costs and doesn't look to be affordable for most people. It's £300 for first appointment, and £29 for repeats (their website says more but I enquired and it's only £29 so same as Integro).
It £150 for follow ups but you can move to 6 monthly appointments when on an established dose so not too bad but the initial layout is way more than some.

There are other clinics like Cantourage which seem to target a particularly audience who are after "tasty weed" etc. their approach wouldn't suit me but no judgement for those who do.

I hope you find a clinic which suits you so you don't have to rely on black market.
Btw Sapphire do a really good oil made by Adven. Highly rated for pain. Might be a good place to start for you?
PM me if you want to chat.

Yes, I agree that no one utilizing it for medical purposes would consider burning and inhaling it. Your remark regarding dispensary employees is interesting that I hadn't considered; they know next to nothing about pharmacology and are mostly concerned with plant cultivation. I believe it helps a limited number of people. Sorry to go all conspiracy theory on you, but my theory is that pharmaceutical corporations like calibudsonlineshop.com would much prefer to have a 10-year monopoly on sales of a copyrighted synthetic drug than extract one from a plant, which AFAIK cannot be patented.

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 05/11/2022 13:21

@thesootherfairy could I ask how much you spend per month on the actual meds please?

I'm absolutely desperate, but am on UC and PIP and struggling to even pay my bills along with my care. I have severe endometriosis, fibromyalgia and arthritis along with ASD, ADHD, PTSD and depression.

I've actually been bed bound for the last year as my sickness and nausea are so bad I can't be upright for more than about 15 minutes at a time, or I'll start vomiting and not be able to stop.

If anyone could point me in the right direction to do this in an affordable way, I'd be eternally grateful.

thesootherfairy · 05/11/2022 13:33

Oh @OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet that sounds awful.

I spend about £100 on meds. Some months it's been £50. Others more.
Mainly due to experimenting with different type so I can get the best out of that.

You don't need to do that at all.

Your cheapest option is probably Sapphire or Cantourage. No repeat prescription fees and low cost cannabis flower at £5 or £6 per gram.

You'll have to have the initial appointments which with your follow ups would total &250 for the first year spread out over the year of course.

I've moved to Resilience Medical as I have IBD Ax Spa and needed a functional medical approach. This is an expensive way of doing it but I work and am self employed and my family rely on my income so I need to do what I can to keep up the pace.

Go for the cheapest clinic and the cheapest products. It will make the world of difference.

I'd recommend Sapphire. They have the best patient portal and their own brand of flowers and oils, Adven is always in stock! Cantourage apparently can be more difficult and they don't have a portal for ordering.

I hope you find some relief.

Thank you so so much @thesootherfairy, I've just registered with Sapphire. I have zero quality of life at the moment, so even if I need to find a side hustle I can do from my bed, then so be it!

I've been on morphine almost 14 years my, and it only just about takes the edge off, so absolute anything is worth a try.

Thanks again. 💐

@Vecnasnurse thank you for the Dank Bakery recommendation. I received a packet of gummies this week and fuck me am I glad I cut an ear off one rather than eating the whole thing. 😂 No pain and no stress.

Also glad I chose to give it a whirl at the weekend with the kids away…
