Hi all

I've been suffering from awful back pain only at night ....to the point its so hard to move it takes so much effort and pain to move ...

I've been to the gp took bloods ... I called up all fine... But i have a follow up appointment in a week ...

Just wondering if anyone been the same? I see alot for lower back .. Not much for upper back and at night .... X

Upper back (thoracic) pain and night pain are both red flags - the GP should have referred you for an MRI and/or to see a consultant. It could be nothing but I’d quote the guidelines and really push for a referral at your follow up.

The vast majority of GPs that I’ve met have very patchy knowledge of back pain, especially when it differs to the usual low back/sciatica route. When DD developed upper back pain we had to go private to get her seen by a consultant as the GP refused to refer, insisting it was purely postural. Now almost 2 years on and she’s 6 months post op from major spinal surgery!

Thank you for your response... Ill definitely be pushing for a scan ... She did say we would chat about scans after the blood results... I definitely will push for this. Thank you
