Colonoscopy prep URGENT!

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 20:43

Hi!

So I'm in for my colonoscopy tomorrow at 8am. Only managed 80% of my first litre and just about to start my second just keep gagging.

I don't know what to do. I know I need to finish it but when I say the struggle is real. It really is real. TMI but the first drink has kicked in a half an hour again after starting at 5:30 but I don't think I can manage another litre

Good luck OP 🙂

Gawdimold · 23/07/2022 00:54

Lemonade chaser with it and sudocreme for your arse

greenacrylicpaint · 23/07/2022 07:57

picolax worked well for me.

I was advised to have a white diet without fibre starting 48 hours before prep.
I was also advised to have half a cup of water after each toilet visit.

Mum5net · 23/07/2022 08:06

Morning @Bubbles1995 good luck for today. You will be great and it will be over before you know it

MunsteadWood · 23/07/2022 08:12

Good luck! Hope it goes well and enjoy the tea and biscuits/toast after. Nothing tastes as good as a post colonoscopy cup of tea Grin

Bubbles1995 · 23/07/2022 08:13

Thank you everyone. Sat here very nervous now. I'm a nervous patient so I'm worried! Honestly counting down the time to eat. IM STARVING!!!

Dh had one a few weeks back, and no biscuit or anything with the tea! Mind you, when I had mine some years ago, I had the most disappointing mini pack of ‘fake’ (i.e. not McVitie’s) digestives. Were in date, but tasted really stale. I ate them - I was desperate! Good luck with it all, op. You’re nearly there!

Mum5net · 23/07/2022 08:45

The whole procedure just took about 20 mins - I was back out on the street before I knew it. I had brought my own biscuits 🍪

serenghetti2011 · 23/07/2022 08:51

I had 2 in a year, crohns and the first I struggled - used a straw def helped not a nice prep at all but all ok

Second one I had an endoscopy too but the prep I threw up a few times was much harder as I think I knew how bad it was but as long as what you’re passing is clear straw colour they’ll get a good view hope it goes well op

Bubbles1995 · 23/07/2022 10:30

All done and duster. Sedated and they brought me digestives yum! They said all is normal apart from some left side redness and inflammation so biopsy has been taken.

Had a Google could be colitis or crohns

Well done @Bubbles1995 sedation was a good idea, I tried without and ended up having to have it half way through the procedure anyway.

Hope it’s nothing too serious and that they get you sorted out.

Great stuff.
Glad they are being thorough. Now relax 😁

Nadal · 23/07/2022 10:52

@Bubbles1995 Ah posted too soon lol. How long for the results? Let us know how you get on 😊

WinterMusings · 23/07/2022 11:08

@Bubbles1995

im glad it's all over!!

my mum has to have them done every 2 years. She gets herself in a right state about the timings and 'making a mess' in the car of whoever is taking her. I feel awful as I live overseas so I can't be there with her when she's trying to get the timings right & the liquid in her or to take her. I think next time I'll go over if I can (it's NZ, so it's not a quick trip and difficult to get enough time off work) & covid restrictions for the last one meant I couldn't anyway.

I hope your results are as good as they possibly can be! My cousin has just had his second operation for chrones & he's doing really well.

vipersnest1 · 23/07/2022 11:10

@Bubbles1995, just so you know, the effects of the prep may well continue for a while (they carried on a bit after I got home) and my stomach still sounds like a cement mixer!

bluegardenflowers · 23/07/2022 11:44

You have to force yourself, distract mentally, use simple flavourings, but if you don't prep fully the exam is worthless and you won't get a good result and unambiguous diagnosis or have to do it again.

IStandWithMaya · 23/07/2022 14:04

@Bubbles1995 Well done for doing it 😊

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/07/2022 20:23

Don't Google , you'll dredge up all manner of stuff that might be accurate or might horrify me .

I got my results within 5 days , now I just have to wait for my IBD referal to come in (I was under this dept prevously but over 2 years since)

You are right about the biscuits - cup of coffee and some custard creams were like heaven , and I don't even like custard creams !

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/07/2022 20:24

or might horrify me
Or horrify you ..............you probably don't mind if they horrify me ! .

Bubbles1995 · 23/07/2022 20:44

I know I shouldn't Google!! I'm so bad for it. They said results will be 4-6 weeks all they could see was some redness on the left side so some inflammation but other than that normal.

Recovery wise I treated myself to a McDonald's which tasted like heaven after not eating for basically a day and a half! Been in bed watching some classics and have nipped out to the shops by my chauffeur (boyfriend!) but feel a bit off still so back to the couch with a blanket!

vipersnest1 · 23/07/2022 22:42

@Bubbles1995, if your gut feels a bit gripey tomorrow, try some buscopan. I'm more than 24 hours out and my stomach is still gurgling and feels knotted up, but taking some buscopan has helped.

SummerWillow · 23/07/2022 23:12

I've done several of these. Even with following everything to the letter, my prep has only been described as 'fair' each time! Well done for getting through it and the procedure.

Bubbles1995 · 24/07/2022 07:08

@vipersnest1 I've had some aches where they've taken samples. I still have looser movements but I will consider a buscapan if it feels any worse later

Have decided to nip to a car boot but thinking should have stayed in bed 😬
