Colonoscopy prep URGENT!

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 20:43

Hi!

So I'm in for my colonoscopy tomorrow at 8am. Only managed 80% of my first litre and just about to start my second just keep gagging.

I don't know what to do. I know I need to finish it but when I say the struggle is real. It really is real. TMI but the first drink has kicked in a half an hour again after starting at 5:30 but I don't think I can manage another litre

Thanks again everyone. Still struggling to get through the second litre. Around half way through ☹️

It is such a horrible thing to have to drink

Is everything clear or pale yellow yet?

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 22:08

@Nadal the last movement I've had was pale yellow

2nd was easier as you are nearly there . Just keep chasing it with squash after. I am a slow drinker and it took several hours to achieve- lol till 11 pm but I got there. You can do it

Mum5net · 22/07/2022 22:09

And I lost loads of weight that day 🤣🤣

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 22:10

@Mum5net I'm the same. I don't even drink this much a day never mind in a time window! That's the silver lining for my weight loss journey! Weighed myself and I'm already half a pound down😅

It really is vile but you can do it! I had to do a bowel prep before endometriosis surgery in Feb, I can hand on heart say drinking that stuff was the worst part of the whole thing! No advice to add apart from use a straw if you have one I don't know why I found it helpful though! Flowers

Nadal · 22/07/2022 22:16

Just try as much as you can. If it is getting clear you are nearly there. You can do it!!!

I admit that I threw the last part down the sink as couldn't deal with anymore as it was making me sick. Then I was panicking if it wasn't enough. But it was "excellent" by all accounts.

You don't want to go through all this to have the procedure postponed.

Diagnosed with microscopic colitis after colonoscopy biopsies.

allboysherebutme · 22/07/2022 22:18

I mixed up some apple juice in the mine it was fine then and I drank it in four lots per sachet. X

Mum5net · 22/07/2022 22:23

You will feel super proud when you get down to the dregs.
whatever happens now you are winning because you’ve necked three quarters of it and so you will be able to go ahead
Genuinely it took me to 11 pm so you are ahead of me it sounds 🤣

vipersnest1 · 22/07/2022 22:32

@Bubbles1995, I was in the same position as you last night and this morning (afternoon appointment).
I never got to the pale orange / yellow/ clear stage, but my prep was sufficient all the same (classed as good - why the hell do they think grading our 'efforts' is helpful?)
I found taking sips of drink in between glasses of moviprep (a standard glass full) was helpful. I had either water or lime juice and lemonade (because I find the lime and lemonade refreshing) - just drink whatever clear fluid suits you - you can end up feeling quite dehydrated if you don't.
I wish you the very best for your procedure. I didn't have quite the same as you, but know that if you are having sedation you can always ask for more pain relief. I needed to and I got it.
Best of luck. Flowers

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 22:35

@Nadal I'll read up on that. Glad you've mentioned the colour because the last bit I don't know if I could manage so if I can I'll be happy to stop and risk it!

@vipersnest1 that's good to hear! Thank you

Thank you all you've been amazing! You've all helped x

Straw to the back of the mouth and swallow. Follow by a yellow jelly baby

H1Drangea · 22/07/2022 22:43

It’s so disgusting and foul to drink , I managed most of mine ( and I was ,… um pooing ? almost clear liquid 🤢
I was so proud when during the procedure I was told I had a nice clean bowel , made it all worth while ( well , not really , but you know what I mean ):
I think it was fleet phosphate ? Very nasty

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 22:46

It's awful I'm panicking because I don't think I can manage anymore but don't want to be turned away😞

I had the same issue before, tried three times and everytime the whole lot came back up. I was in hospital at the time and the nurses got very cross with me, as they needed to do the test. I ended up with an enema in the morning g but really was not good and the test was painful and not completed.
Ended up being sick while also poohing was not good at all.
I'm due another one soon and am glad to know I'm not the only one that struggles and all the hints.
Good luck, you can do it.

Norachance · 22/07/2022 22:52

I found adding fizzy ginger beer was better. I drank my first lot but struggled with the second lot. I left about 100mls or so but my prep was good and the procedure was fine.

Nadal · 22/07/2022 22:57

How much is left?
If it's coming out pale yellow water consistently I think you will be fine.

Bubbles1995 · 22/07/2022 22:58

@Nadal it looks like yellow urine now so I'm calling it a night and hoping for the best

Really please don’t panic, if you’re already passing yellow there’s a good chance you’ll be fine. I have had 3 colonoscopies, the last one with picolax, and that never went clear, it didn’t seem as effective as moviprep but it didn’t affect the results.

It’s going to keep working all night and all day tomorrow - and if you’re really worried about it speak to them when you get there but it sounds like you’ve had quite a lot of the second dose.

I think it’ll be very common for people not to be able to finish the vile drink - just drink as much as you can but dont get worked up over it - you’re going to be fine

Ask for picolax instead of moviprep. I don’t think it worked as well for me but there is MUCH less of it to drink, one glass I think instead of several litres.

they were quite reluctant to give it to me so you might have to insist but it is an option

JustlookingNotbuying · 22/07/2022 23:04

The prep has to be the most vile stuff ever. Mine was vanilla flavoured and even now, 3 years on I can not stomach anything vanilla. The colonoscopy was a breeze compared to that evil stuff.
I struggled so much that I could only manage one and half litres and I should have downed 3. I was convinced they would turn me away but my colon was clear. Tbh, I was so nervous about the procedure I hadn't eaten for about 4 days so that one and a half litres probably cleared out what little was in there. I don't recommend this though obviously you need to get down as much as possible but you have my sympathy, I feel queasy thinking about it especially as I've recently had a pill camera endoscopy and had to take picolax for that, equally vile. I hope it goes well tomorrow op.

Lisad1231981 · 22/07/2022 23:07

Catsdrool thank you, my daughter has that as a daily med, so not a problem getting hold of it! However, I was very poorly last time I had to take it, was already in huge pain and hadn't really eaten and had a stomach ulcer. Really hoping this time is better, especially as I'm at home with my own bathroom.
Really hope your ok OP

vipersnest1 · 22/07/2022 23:19

@Bubbles1995, it sounds like you've done enough, so yes, go to bed now.
What I was producing (sorry) was still brown but also liquid. The doctor who did my procedure had to suction a bit here and there, but still had good views of what he needed to see.
Yes, go to bed. You will feel very tired tomorrow - I felt so drained (!) it made me feel a bit faint and I ended taking a couple of dextrose tablets, but it was ok in the end.
All the best.
