Have any of you ladies breast fed while being in king term pain relief?
I am currently managing (just!) on two doses of ibuprofen a day and one or two doses of paracetamol and have been breastfeeding since birth. Baby is now 9 months old and will not take a bottle. Im getting worried about the amount of meds getting transferred to him as im also on a heart medication.
various medical professionals have assured me im on safe meds but I wonder if any studies have ever looked and prolonged exposure like this to painkillers through the breast milk.

Try emailing the specialist prescriber on the breastfeeding network email. Her name is Wendy and she's amazing! She'll be able to point you towards studies and offer additional reassurance

I had gallstones with regular attacks so often took paracetamol, ibuprofen and a high dose of codeine. Baby was fine. Literally no sign in him that anything had transferred. Once morphine in the hospital, left a good few hours before the next feed but still fine.

Mine was only once a day but sometimes every day for a week or more. So much pain relief I passed out. I was assured baby would be fine and he was. I felt awful at the time, like a drug addict, but you have got to do what is necessary to keep you well for baby.

Take the painkillers as and when you need them. You will feel bad, but you will look back and be glad you did.
