CHRONIC PAIN - share your moans and achievements

Hello,

This thread is to share the day to day... The moans, rants, fears, anger of day to day living with pain... And let's be positive where we can too... Little or big achievements.

I've had a tough day with my grumpy toddler who is obsessed with biting, he made my shoulder bleed today 😢

On the plus side, had a great pilates class and managed some tricky stuff despite feeling exhausted... I couldn't have done it unless my teacher was on Zoom telling me to hold it!

@doadeer

Wonderful - big welcome!

I'm waiting for nerve denervation (burn the nerves in my lower back) not this Friday but next. It's expected to give me a few months relief could even be up to a year! Amazing. I can't hope for that as I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.

Hi doadeer - do you mind me asking if you had a medial branch root blocker before being referred for the denervation?

I've just had the branch root blocker done with a view towards denervation and I'm wondering how long the pain relief lasts? It's been surprisingly effective so far Smile

Akire · 01/07/2021 07:13

I dont walk so can’t tell you! But yes not great if mobility dodgy as not really special floor.

cricketmum84 · 01/07/2021 08:17

Ah I see. I can sort of walk but only with a frame and very very slowly and with no feeling in my stupid feet and ankles so I would be too scared in a wet room.

Ooh and I slept all the way through last night! I mean it took a hot bath, amitryptaline, codeine, high strength cbd oil and some wine but I'm not complaining 😂 I even managed to slowly walk down the stairs with the DHs help rather than coming down on my bum!

doadeer · 01/07/2021 09:54

@maz210
Yes i had two or three rounds of injections with steroids and anesthetic injected from L3 to coccyx as many as they could do.
I then had the nerve ablation with 6 different entry points in my back it was immensely painful after . I only got 6 weeks relief but I think I'm not the norm.

It's difficult with backs as we all have different causes so my experience could be polar opposite to yours. 🙏

Just had smear test nurse was actual lovely and then when talked about on going pain issues she said oh we can take some bloods and check for xyz and did them then and then. Always good to get more nasty things out of the way.

Evenstar · 01/07/2021 12:18

Still in hospital at the moment, just come off the oxygen and they are going to recheck in half an hour to see if the doctors will be happy to let me go. The nurse feels they should take my asthma into account and the fact I had a recent exacerbation and a course of steroids.
Glad to hear the bath helped you have a good night @cricketmum84 and glad you had a positive experience @Akire

Akire · 01/07/2021 12:20

Sounds like they are looking after you well. Would you be happy stay few days or problems for work childcare?

Evenstar · 01/07/2021 15:52

They let me out 😊 not working at the moment and youngest child is 18, so wouldn’t have been a problem as DH was holding the fort with the pets. Just lovely to be home as it was shockingly noisy last night and I am very tired, they were very kind and looked after me really well.

I think I will have to try and book a telephone appointment with an asthma nurse (they are not doing face to face for asthma check ups) as I haven’t been reviewed for 2 years, pre COVID they just didn’t have any available as they won’t release the appointments more than 3 weeks ahead.

Akire · 01/07/2021 15:52

Great you have escaped!

Akire · 02/07/2021 13:05

It’s Friday! It’s not raining! Hope everyone is doing ok. Been looking over numbers on our new board.

We got it on 14th May thanks to @doadeer who helped kick the request off.

Since then we have had 10 new posts middle to end of May. Then 16 posts in June as well as this thread on going.

I think thats pretty good going for new board. I do hope more people join in; I make point checking few times a day for new threads but there were so many people who expressed interest in the board and seems be same old faces!

But it’s a start and hopefully will build up the resource for others here Flowers

Evenstar · 06/07/2021 15:53

Hi everyone recovering as expected so far I think, and have reduced the painkillers considerably. I am not meant to have my foot down much yet anyway, so it is mostly OK if I keep it elevated.

Hope everyone else is doing OK, I am finding it quite frustrating being so inactive, but it is what is and I hope to get the best result by keeping off my foot for now to let the bones heal. It has been a shock to see how busy my husband is as I often feel I don’t do that much due to fatigue etc. I think most of us are quite hard on ourselves and don’t have a realistic idea of how much we do even on bad days.

Akire · 06/07/2021 16:07

Hi glad you are feeling better. I didn’t want keep posting when it’s just me me me!
Not having best day lots of new position pelvic and bowel pain. Just when you feel like there can’t possible be new pain and here we go. Got doctors in10days but can’t see them doing much. Due on soon so could be that. I suspect endometriosis but even if doctor agrees nothings going improve any time soon.

Evenstar · 06/07/2021 16:12

@Akire sorry to hear that, I think there was an article on endometriosis in that Guardian series last week.

Akire · 06/07/2021 16:17

Although I have so much going on stomach and pelvic side so far every test is normal. Bloody depressing. Going ask for some tramodl I think. Trying cut down on my drinking as very high cholesterol but only give me some coedine for periods and doesn’t do much. But when you have days when had guts full and need few hours off alcohol is there and you don’t have beg for it.

And top of off rescanned Tv as lots channels pixiel and now lost favourite channels! Trying re scan various option. Who’s knows if I’m Ariel digital or analogue or both?

cricketmum84 · 06/07/2021 22:11

No idea about ariels and TVs sorry @Akire :(

Struggling tonight as my ankles have ballooned and it feels like an evil b*tch with screws for fingernails is giving my feet and ankles Chinese burns.

Might just down the entire bottle of cbd instead of 4 drops. Had my allocation of codeine and amitryptaline but will have to take some codeine up to bed in case I wake in the night with pain like last night.

omgwhy · 06/07/2021 22:26

@doadeer just scrolling and read your post about fight / flight pain.

Not sure is anyone's used it but I downloaded curable app about 6-8 months ago, trust me I was 🙄 about it.

But I've actually enjoyed working through and it's actually helped me with that feeling you mentioned.

So I have endometriosis (surgery 12 months ago) kidney, bladder, chest and all kinds of issues. So when something flared up like a regular tummy ache, I'm all doom and gloom and reaching for my hot water bottles and comfort pain stuff.

The app really changed those smaller niggles. Obviously the real ones are different, but it did stop me panicking a bit.

Akire · 07/07/2021 09:57

Morning all. Now even BBC is all funny argh. Looking at basic sky package since I go no where or do anything and havnt for long time! About £8 week so worth it if can sort and can pause live TV and all that. I know people tut and make comments if you are on benefits and have SKY but it would cost me over £80 in taxi and price of cinema tickets so just not doable. Plus the wheelchair space is always right by the wall at the back so hardy best view. No one would think going cinema 3 times a year was somehow excessive and luxury.

Pain slightly better today though nerve pain in fingers woke me in night. The nails under finger nails is so painful.

What strength CBT oil are you on? I’ve been meaning to try but I look online and so many options and brands and strength it’s not cheap when you not sure you are buying the right thing or not.

Akire · 07/07/2021 10:00

Welcome to thread @omgwhy unless I have missed you before or different name. It’s hard when you have one thing and your body responds by starting fires all over your body.

Can you explain bit more about curable app. I think I may have seen it and rolled eyes like you lol is it positive affirmations type thing? The one I saw was x per month I think as well?

Akire · 07/07/2021 11:03

I just questioned why mumsnet he felt need put up their Samaritans number in this
Post after someone talking about chronic pain.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4290105-Anyone-else-with-a-chronic-illness-having-a-bad-day

Am I being over sentive or just feel sensitive to how talking about chronic pain sounds to normal people? I’d be very upset if mumsnet Hq post that warning & support blurb eveytime one of us said we are having a bad day. What do you think? Just me?

Akire · 07/07/2021 11:06

The warning and support blurb is this

“ We hope you don't mind, but when we see a concerning post such as yours we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources.
You can also go to the Samaritans website, or email them on [email protected]. Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters on this thread, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.

We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.”

I've just commented on that one. One of the posters said she planned to be dead by the end of the day 😢
Akire · 07/07/2021 11:53

I saw don’t know how I missed !

cricketmum84 · 07/07/2021 12:20

I've just excelled myself

I’m meant to be getting a sharps bin delivered today and I need to pay £1 for it. Guy knocked at the door so I sent DD to answer it with £1. He passed her the package and she passed him the £1. He said “what’s this for?” She said “I don’t know my mum said to give you it!”.........

It was a package from wowcher.

So now we have tipped the delivery driver with a shiny £1 coin.

Actually dying inside right now because he is parked outside still trying to work out why we gave him £1 😂😂😂

Akire · 07/07/2021 14:59

That’s so funny lol what exciting meds is sharp bin for?

cricketmum84 · 07/07/2021 15:19

Lol I'm still mortified!

It's just for the lancet needles for my blood glucose monitor. I've been putting them in a jar but thought I should organise my life a bit better and get a proper sharps bin for them after I accidentally pricked my finger on one yesterday.
