DS’s birthday is in November, so I’m stumped for Christmas present ideas.

What are you buying your 9yo?

I've bought my 10 year old a Minecraft light up booksafe from smiggle.
Paper aeroplane making kit with motors

FleecyBlanketPerson · 11/11/2022 13:22

My son's having a birthday party, he said it meant more to him to have his class mates at a big bash than having money to spend or gifts. He loves build your own robot toys, microscope for kids and science kits. He likes nerf guns too. So that's what I would have bought had there been no party.

flingingmelon · 11/11/2022 13:44

I'm seriously tempted to buy a load
Of decathalon vouchers and hand him one every month for a year.

I'm constantly buying, being asked for or replacing footballs, goal keeping gloves, rugby gloves, cricket bats, hockey sticks, wet suits, shin pads...

It's endless.

Otherwise I'm going to go into decathalon and just buy the first ten things I come across, because that's that he wants. (Maybe not the sports bras)

Stompythedinosaur · 11/11/2022 13:49

My 9yo dd is getting:

A mobile phone (aware this will be unpopular on mn but is pretty normal where we live)
Tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Graphic marker pens
A Harry Potter hoodie
Books - the Hetty Feather series and Lottie Brooks
A resin craft set
A painting set
A water speaker
A robux gift card

A skateboard was a very popular gift for my elder DD when she was 9.

Ridingthegravytrain · 11/11/2022 13:55

Mine wants an air up water bottle

MinnieMountain · 11/11/2022 16:31

Can you recommend any science kits @FleecyBlanketPerson . Even reading the reviews it’s tricky to find a decent one.

FleecyBlanketPerson · 11/11/2022 16:46

@MinnieMountain

  1. leaning more towards geography but a volcano themed kit, basic but has a brilliant tectonic plates puzzle.
  2. Science mad kits
  3. we bought a sizable one for age 8+ very detailed instructions, see pic. Lots to do with that one.

Not science kits but worth their weight in gold: Smyth's sell a science and human body encyclopedia. Use them a lot.

Human body parts game (Smyth's)

We also have a chemistry plant nearby who gave us a free book for children's science experiments to do for free at home. We also bought a few as he loves reading them all (pic)

Mine is getting some Godzilla 6" figures, a Pokémon figure, lots of cards and a card folder/wallet thing. A Pokémon trainer box (his most expensive present), a Pokémon plush and a Demogorgon plush.

He's also getting an RC raptor (as is my 2 year old, or they'll only fight over it, they both love dinosaurs), mini drone thing, a thanos glove, a star wars figure and the next attack on titan book he needs.

The one he really will be amazed by and that I can't wait to give him is 6 fossils, he's got a few really cool ones like mosasaur, spinosaurus and megalodon teeth that he's going to go mad for, they were only a few £ each! We've also got him some shelves to put them on, and a little engraved sign to put up that says 'XXX's Museum Est. 2022'

They're all from here: mylostgems.com/

And got the display boxes for them from here: earthlines.com/product-category/storage-display/specimen-boxes/ (though the fossil place does do gift boxed ones I believe)
