DH said today 'did WE send a card to XXX'?

I replied to say no, we hadn't but there are a box in the hall he can use.

Two hours later 'did YOU do the card for XXX'?

Oh yes. Along with:

"What have WE bought for XXXX"

whomovedmychocolate · 23/12/2009 23:20

Oh don't! I have a meeting booked in with DH (it's me that's so busy not him obviously that we need a meeting) so I can brief him on what we have bought for people so he doesn't look utterly stunned when they open them (as happened last year.

Longtinsellyjosie · 24/12/2009 06:08

Yes he bloody well does

bebesequin · 24/12/2009 08:19

Yes I 'Do' DHs colleagues cards-he never knows the names of their partners/children or spelling- the only present he buys is for his parents- by this I mean he orders vouchers online -he has just gone back to bed with the papers as he is'exhausted with all this Christmas stuff!' FFS!

TheOldestCat · 24/12/2009 08:22

Yes, mine does too. But we/I/anyone in this house has failed to send any cards this year. Whoops.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 24/12/2009 08:25

Mine does this too. The only present he buys is one for me, I get the thankyous from his parents/sisters etc for their gifts though, he has a look to see what 'he' bought them

MrsKitty · 24/12/2009 08:28

Yes .I write all his work ones too, even though i've never met any of them!

tulpe · 24/12/2009 08:29

LOL Bebesequin - my DH is currently languishing beneath covers to "prepare himself for onslaught of festivities"!! Meanwhile, I have got up, iced cake, cleaned kitchen, fed children and got myself dressed.........I swear, I am coming back as a cat or a bloke in the next life !!

bubble2bubble · 24/12/2009 08:30

LOL
Oh yes. And what have we bought for X & X.Have we had the car serviced, have we paid the insurance, have organised a plumber yet, have we ordered oil, have we bought any beers.....

CMOTdibbler · 24/12/2009 08:45

Dh doesn't write cards or wrap presents as 'I do them neater'. I force him to write his mum and dads card, and he does buy presents for his family and DS.

He does say 'did we do a card for x' when it is someone I have met once, he has seen once in 15 years, and neither of us has an address for though

TheFowlAndThePussycat · 24/12/2009 08:47

Good grief yes, it drives me crazy. Haven't done christmas cards this year because last year & when dd was born this year (with thank you cards) I wrote & put stamps on the blinking things, all he had to do was address them or take them to people. 6 months later I put them in the recycling.

I went a bit bonkers on Tuesday night when I had to ask 3 times for him to help wrap the presents which he had no part in buying, gave him an ear full & now he is a bit more subdued! Honestly do theythink Christmas celebrations drop from the heavens fully prepared?

Sexonlegs · 24/12/2009 08:54

Oh yes. A real irritation!

I refuse to do his parents', brother and grandma though; I just think it is wrong for me to do close family, even though we have been married 10 years!!

pigleychez · 24/12/2009 08:55

oh yes.. Annoying isnt it!

I do all the cards/buying gifts/wrapping. He does buy my present but thats about it.
I make sure that he writes the cards to his parents and Nan though so it looks like he has made some effort over xmas! - Although everyone knows its me!

misshardbroom · 24/12/2009 09:00

are you me?

This happens every year.

This year he had a gigantic (and thankfully uncharacteristic) loss because I had put all the Christmas cards we'd received into the card hangy thing before he'd even seen them. They'd been in a growing pile on the hall table since the beginning of December - what did he want me to do, brief him on each one individually?!

BalloonSlayer · 24/12/2009 09:01

I usually ask DH if he is "using the Royal 'We' " when he tries this one.

Toffeepopple · 24/12/2009 09:44

Yep - did "we" send a card to that colleague in the States. Did "we" put him on the list so "we" don't forget him again....

gallery · 24/12/2009 09:58

I always do the cards but have rebelled a few times and not done any for some of his friends but made him sit and do them. But this year shock horror I have done NONE. Well, one to his sister enclosing a cheque. That was it. None to my family, friends, work colleagues. Zilch. I feel liberated!

famishedass · 24/12/2009 16:18

PMSL at this thread.

My DH only buys one present (mine) and my God don't he give it one huge build up.

"this is from me, this is from me, this is from me, you can't open it till xmas, no peeking, I'm gonna hide it, you're gonna love it" and on and on and on.

It's usually a fucking jumper or CD.

whomovedmychocolate · 24/12/2009 16:28

DH asked me if perhaps my secretary could do his this year. He got a very frosty response.

OP posts:
FolornHope · 24/12/2009 16:29

thast why i sotpped doing them tbh

famishedass · 24/12/2009 16:50

I've stopped sending cards too and I also feel liberated.

In a few years time, perhaps we'll just buy presents for our own children.

FolornHope · 24/12/2009 16:53

i stoped 5 years ago
still get loads!

oopsandbabyJesusinacoconut · 24/12/2009 17:29

I have just had this very question from DH along with what have we bought for his mother, Godchildren and DD's stocking.

This year I told him to add people he wantedcardsfor to my list - no list no cards, he forgot and got all antsy today that the woman who delivers the sarnies at his office or some such other person I would never know about, never got a card like he asked

Apparently it is my job as I am incharge of things like that. I don't remember this delegation of duties in my marriage vows!

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 24/12/2009 18:50

I've not done any this year. well, I did write 7 but I don't know where they are or whom they were too. So dh wrote out some for our neighbours this evening and delivered them for us. Def lost m grip this year!
