Am going to waitrose in the hope that it may be more civilised than anywhere else

But is there likely to be anything left on the shelves tonight? I don't need to do a big shop and will be getting beef rather than a bird. Will need some veg though.

What would you do?

I would go first thing in the morning, be there as they open the doors

Ewe · 23/12/2009 15:14

I would probably go late tonight, if they are open overnight or be there for the second they open. I have an irrational fear of things running out so would need to do it as soon as I could!

YouDontKnowMeFromAdam · 23/12/2009 15:15

Morning, as they'll restock overnight. The shelves may be empty by closing time/late in the evening.

HumBuggerance · 23/12/2009 15:22

our local Asda actually has empty shelves in some of the fresh food aisles.
WTF?
Is there something I don't know? End of Civilation looming? Should I activate my Zombie Plan...?

JodieO · 23/12/2009 15:22

Had mine delivered yesterday

It'll be quieter there this evening but there'll be more stock on the shelves first thing in the morning, especially fruit and veg which is normally on a morning delivery.

MarjoryMoores · 23/12/2009 15:39

Right - think I'm going to wait and do it tomorrow which means I can have a glass of wine with dinner tonight

Wish me luck!

I went evening of the 23rd 3 years ago and it was a NIGHTMARE. Never again. I'm a doors opening girl now. Yesterday I was in Saisbos at 7.20 and it was v empty. Today Tesco (which ridiulously only opens at 8am) at 8.05 and it was already getting busy, but bearable. Only problem with that plan is that they won't serve you alcohol (in Scotland anyways) until 10am.

traceybath · 23/12/2009 15:46

christmas eve less busy than the 23rd according to my local waitrose . . .

CremeDeMenthe · 23/12/2009 15:46

Last night Waitrose was v.quiet and extremely civilised. Plenty of stock, and re-stocking going on.
Tesco was mad.

Check opening times on their website
.

MarjoryMoores · 23/12/2009 15:59

they're open tonight til 10pm and then open tomorrow at 8am which is quite civilised - do waitrose let you in early to 'browse'?

I'm going to go for Mum tonight at about midnight! fingers crossed for stock on shelves. Luckily, I don't think she wants much.

tulpe · 23/12/2009 17:31

Definitely the morning for Waitrose.

But make sure you are there for opening of doors.......there will be a queue of men with lists made by their DWs . I always do our Waitrose veg and last minute shop Christmas Eve morning too.........or DH does

IMoveTheStarsForChristmas · 23/12/2009 17:44

Waitrose are good at constantly re-stocking thought aren't they? I would go this evening if they're open late, but then first thing in the morning may as well be the middle of the night for me

geogteach · 23/12/2009 18:01

Went to Waitrose this morning for opening at 8, wasn't too bad although fruit and veg was a bit chaotic, mostly due to that being the first thing you come too, once in the rest of the store it was ok and only one person in front of me when I came to pay, by the time i got out they were queueing for the car park. went to sainsbury's later which is my usual shop and they had some distinclty empty sections in fruit and veg but the queues there were reasonable too, but i walked not sure what the car park was like.

gloomgirl · 23/12/2009 18:02

did mine at 3am yesterday as I was up and about so thought I'd make the most of it-I was the only one in the shop (other than staff) and it was wonderful! dh even got up to help me pack it all away!
