yes i know UPVC front doors are naf and vile. i have to live with it. i know.

but how do i fix my (large and beautiful) wreath onto it?

i was going to dangle a ribbon over the top but there isn't anything to tie the ribbon onto on the inside.

i don't think sucky hooks will be strong enough.

i also live 20 miles from the nearest B&Q or homebase and don't think waitrose stocks magic wreath hangers.

any ideas?

You can get hooks that go over the tops of doors. They don't attach, they just hang over (you would probably need a 2mm gap between the door and the frame to accommodate it).

Or 3M make removable sticky hooks.

You should be able to get either from a decent supermarket.

We got suction hooks from homebase.

Sorry just reread your post properly!

I have a special wreath suction hook that I got in the garden centre. I have to say that I was dubious but it's been up a week now

If you haven't got any garden shops either, then what I've done in previous years is loop string over the top and tape it to the top of the inside door frame with white tape so you can't see it that well

RockBird · 19/12/2009 09:35

Second the wreath hanger, although we can't open our front door now as there is only a teeny weeny gap but dammit, it looks good!

pigleychez · 19/12/2009 09:38

We had the same problem.
The homebase/BandQ over the door hanger things didnt look like they would fit as our door is quite chunky.

In the end I attached some nice ribbon to the wreath and hung it over the door then stuck it to the back of the door (inside)
It needed a bit of selotape but it seems to have held ok. Its been up a few weeks already.

Thankfully as I used white ribbon its not too noticeable.

The extra large suction hooks work. I have a UPVC door too. Got the hooks in Homebase last year.

have phoned DH with instructions. god knows what he will retun with. if it is something ridiculous i may venture to the garden centre tomorrow. thanks.

I hammered a small nail into a recess on top of the door (had to secure it using blutack before hammering in) and used ribbon to hang it from. Wreath was quite heavy though.

bellavita · 19/12/2009 17:00

Clear plastic wreath hanger which fits perfectly over the door. Think it came from B&Q.

Openbook · 19/12/2009 17:04

Should have seen DH working on this. Tied string all round recess of door then made a loop to dangle down the front and attached wreath to that. Also had to buy two pencil rubbers but haven't got a clue how they helped. Wreath has been in place for a week now though. Next year will look for special hanger though!

The clear plastic hangers dont work on Upvc ( over the door type ones)
I am going to put a small screw in the recees bit as per last yearsmodel!

tulpe · 19/12/2009 17:21

I attach our wreath as per pigleychez description. Works very well. We secure the ribbon on the inside of the door with sellotape/gaffer tape and then stick a christmas bow over the ugly bit

QOD · 19/12/2009 17:21

I have one inside and one outside.......... joined together with string that goes over the top of the door, I have got a door wreath hanger but it was a bit floppy LOL

Openbook · 20/12/2009 12:08

That's it QOD!

janmoomoo · 21/12/2009 18:18

Wot pigleychez said. White ribbon (or wrapping ribbon or even a strong piece of white cotton), run up over top of door, stick down inside door at top with bit of selotape. Easy, no cost or special equipment, and selotape seems to come off easy afterwards.

PandaG · 21/12/2009 18:25

we've tied a loop to wreath, then tied string to inside door handle, through loop at top - loop is over the door, then string tied to hinge of door level with door handle - makes a triangle.

no marks on door, and I've pegged christmas cards to string

i got a brass wreath hanger - its done the job fine and was £2! very hassle free and looks nice too - got it from garden centre.
