What to do with cards coming to wrong address?

We moved here October 2008 and today we have recieved 5 Xmas cards for the people who lived here before. I have asked the neighbours but no one knows where they are now. One neighbour said he would check the cards for money which I thought was a bit cruel.

Would people put return addresses in Xmas cards?

I open them and hang them up with the others .

We have lived in this house for 5 years and we still get cards for the people who lived here before.

You ought to do the same as for any other mail which is not to you - write "No longer at this address" on it and put it into a post box. Then it's up to the post office to open them up and return them if they can, or presumably hold onto them until someone enquires about them (ie never!).

I return them if there's an address on the back, but open the rest and put them up with all the others so I look really popular

I like opening them and laughing at the 'news letter'

We've had cards posted to us twice over with the wrong address. DH has lived here 22 years! I've put 'Look wrong address' and they still come back the only thing that the same as our house is the number & road EVERTHING ELSE is wrong. If they bounce back one more time I'm going to bin them.

I'm wondering if they are people they don't like. We get no other mail for them just Xmas cards. I'm going to put them back in the post box.

We moved here in 2002 and still get cards for the previous owners who couldn't be arsed to let their friends know they'd moved. (We also get a fair bit of regular mail for them.) I used to pass them onto the next-door neighbours, who passed them on again, but can't be doing with that, 7 years on. None of the cards ever have addresses on the back, and I'm afraid they go into the recycling.

Which I have a feeling is illegal.

we get one every year from someone called ramone.. no message just a signature like Mamagoblin we have lived here since 2002 he obviously isn't that much of a friend if he hasn't worked out that they have moved to another country!

As for what I do with it... I open it and hang it up with the others.
