Christmas outdoor lights-whats your set up?

Fancied a nice string of fairy lights on the christmas tree that grows in the front garden but the solar ones only burn for an hour.

I have an outside socket at the back of house and was thinking of running an extension round the front with a timer on it to get some lights on the tree which will go the distance

whats your set up?tips and advice appreciated!!

Pitch darkness here - live in a field so absolutely no point in putting up any lights!

We have far too many lights on the outside of our house, you would probably all think they are tacky but the kids love them and people from all around come to have a look so I just don't care!
