I know he wants to get married at some point, but i think he is worried/scared about having to do/plan the whole big, romantic proposal which really isn't his style (he is very quiet and shy).

So, i have decided i am going to do it instead. Money is very tight at the moment, i was thinking of maybe buying making some cookies or cupcakes and decorating them with 'Happy Xmas, Marry Me?', putting them in a lovely box etc. Is that a rubbish idea? I would like to try and make it a little bit romantic.

Any ideas?

TIA

I think that's lovely!

MaggieNollaig · 11/12/2009 16:32

Yes, do it! focus on the being married and don't mention the wedding day.

maybe let's be married rather than let's get married?? i don't know if that makes a difference.

Yay, am glad you don't think it is a rubbish idea .

If i buy and decorate the cookies will they go stale because of being out of their packaging? how long do you think they would last, i could possibly decorate the day before...

Aww that's nice :-)

I proposed to my DH on 29 February a few years ago. I switched the light off and had candles all round the room, and held a candle plus a ring for DH in my hands. I'd also changed into nice flowy romantic clothes!

He loved it (though was quite amusing when he came into the room carrying two mugs of coffee) and we've been married for four years now

oooh might pop into thorntons and see hanaflower, he loves pic'n'mix type sweets as well, so might put the choc in the middle and put loads of sweets round the edge..

That sounds lovely Rhian, hopefully next year we will be able to sort out rings

Why dont you make a cracker & put a note inside it asking him?

Or buy a nice bauble for the tree, write on it will you marry me? & ask him to help you decorate the tree by passing him the special bauble?

Good luck.

RollBaubleUnderTree · 11/12/2009 16:57

Your idea sounds lovely. I asked my DH to marry me but I was really pissed at the time and was sick later....so romantic!

When I woke up next morning I couldn't remember asking him. Been married 9 years though so not a disaster!

Tikkabillajive · 11/12/2009 18:43

What a lovely idea! Have you seen this company? I've always thought they looked amazing but couldn't justify the cost - but for £8 they deliver a big heart-shaped biscuit with a personalised message on...

PLEASE will you post back after Christmas and let us know how it went? Good luck!

AnAngelWithin · 11/12/2009 18:45

make a cracker with a ring in it and 'will you marry me' on paper instead of a joke

Tikkabillajive · 11/12/2009 18:49

Just seen about him loving pick & mix sweets - could you use them to spell out 'Marry Me' somehow?

foxinsocks · 11/12/2009 19:49

yes yes those alphabet sweets

you can get them in ye olde style sweety shops!

busybutterfly · 11/12/2009 19:57

Good idea.

I am laughing at the though of him digging into the cupcakes and you yelling at him to 'read them, you muppet'

Possible the most romantic thing I have ever read on MN.

Good luck.

StrictlyKatty · 12/12/2009 14:21

That is so lovely! I hope it goes really well I'm sure he'll be thrilled, espeically as he'll avoid the nerves of asking (Whish DH said was the worst bit!)so will love you forever!

maxybrown · 12/12/2009 16:23

That's lovely. Dh asked me on Christmas Day - we had no money either but got married 3 months later with immediate family and it was lovely
