Tree's up and decorated - but how do you do the rest of the room?

Just done the tree with DSs and have stuck a few bits around the lounge/dining room (eg large tin father christmas, fairy lights along the fire place etc) but was wondering what other people do to make their rooms look Christmassy??? I've hit a brick wall of ideas!

I don't do much more than you've already done. The tree usually dominates anyway!

I put our cards up in the front room, so it gets more Christmassy as time goes on. I have a bowl of Christmassy pot pourri on the hearth next to DS2's nice advent calendar.

And there's a pretty piece of mistletoe-shaped stained glass hanging from the ceiling light. That's mainly there for DH to walk into several times a day. Never fails to amuse me!

Have some Christmas mugs too, which are often in there (in use, of course).

How about a large glass vase or dish piled with baubles? Simple but effective.

tree not up yet but have other stuff around

  • candle arch on fireplace with gold wicker star hanging above
  • bits of (plastic) xmas greenery in the fireplace (only with the normal logs and pinecones)
  • felt advent calendar
  • 2ft cardboard xmas tree that we hang daily decoration out of advent calendar on
  • wicker snowman with lights on
  • nativity scene
  • wreath on front door
  • twinkly lights on garage
  • cards

It gets more xmasy here as the month goes on, starts with just the advent calendar and cardboard tree, we put the other bits detailed above up yesterday, tree will go up this weekend (would be next weekend but the boys are with their dad from 20th-26th).

I love it, then I love it when it all goes away and the place seems so much tidier!

tinsel on everything
a large singing christmas tree
a snowman fleecy blanket
cards on a length of string across the back wall
snow spray on windows
silly string on light fittings
those plastic cling on glass transfers on any remaining glass
topped off rather fetchingly with original (natch) 70's foil decorations looped across the ceiling

god, mine looks like loads set out like that, doesn't feel like it!

Will probably make snowflakes this weekend and stick up on the conservatory windows aswell.
