On Christmas day I would like to wear something new. I'm cooking and going for a long walk in the muddy park don't have time to change. Any fab suggestions? I have a christmas apron in green and red.

Last year staying in a half finished house (its now 3/4 finished) with a long walk, log fire and need to keep warm and look good on the agenda I wore:
A long devoree (sp?) dress I've had for ages from Monsoon. Its black with red, yellow and green velvet Devoree flowers o it. Always get compliments on it and its really easy and forgiving to wear with NO tight waistband!

Over it I wore a red V neck shrug cardigan, and under it I wore a pair of over the knee cashmere socks in black with pretty red ribbon down the backs.

For the walk I added black velvet pull on trousers - old and not that stylish now but look good under the dress, a big pashmina style pink and red scarf, my red coat and stout boots.

Dress is mid calf length so avoided the mud, trousers could be tucked into boots when it got bad.

For cooking I would have put a black tshirt over the dress, taken off the shrug and put on an apron.

It looked Christmasy but not OTT and it was warm, comfy and pretty.

What is devoree?
Hmm a dress with trousers underneath an idea as the dress won't get muddy.

halia, I quite want to be you - that sounds fabulous and the sort of look I dream of pulling off but never quite manage!

thanks tikka - I love colour and I do like that outfit!

you wouldn't want to be me today though, full of snotty cold and I can't find ANYTHING that doesn't make my nose look even redder and my face look ghostly white.
