****NormaStanleyFletcher would like to say sorry as the Christmas Appeal Matching is slightly delayed****

Sorry folks

Some idiot company decided to give me a full time job earlier than expected, and I have a MASSIVE document to finish; they are paying me a load of money (well more than I have ever earned before) so I feel duty bound as the eager newbie to get it done in my free time...

I have no internet access during the day apart from BBC, tfl and a couple of others.

I have also been ill, not with a hangover from the Christmas Party, but with earache, and have had v little sleep, so had to have the day off work yesterday (so much for the eager newbie)

Anyhoo - this means that the matching will be delayed by a couple of days. Sorry

If you have a particular need to be matched early, drop me a mail ([email protected]) and I will shove you to the top of the list.

Thanks for listening.

Please bump this

Ta

Oh Norma - sounds like you needed it! I was just thinking about you while feeding DS, so came in to check how you were going. Imo, your new job are lucky to have someone so conscientious and hard-working. Hope you're feeling much better soon and that once you've got this done you're all set for a lovely Christmas yourself .

MrsBrendanCole · 17/12/2009 08:38

NSF, i promise im not nagging, but tis also my very last chance for the very last bits for christmas, so before 11.00am today would be fab, if not it will be sent in Jan, but im sure it'll be fine.

Ta muchly.

mumoverseas · 17/12/2009 08:59

sounds like nagging to me
MrsBC why don't you buy some gift vouchers in a shop that could be used by all ages and then when you get your match you can send them in a card. That way, hopefully the recipient will get them a damm sight quicker than a parcel posted and hopefully have time to nip out and buy her DC something before the big day?
Not ideal I know (as I love going out and choosing the pressies) but at least that way it should be received in time.

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 17/12/2009 09:35

The other option for people buying hgifts is Amazon as they still ahve time untilfreedelivery ends for Christmas, and then paid delivery after that.

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 17/12/2009 10:10

Hawkin's Bazaar is 22nd December, M&S 19th, Smiths 18th- 21st dependant, Thorntons can take gold delviery until 23rd....... it's all still very do-able.

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 17/12/2009 10:15

And voucher express do up to the 21st sorlots of high street stores

(don't worry,am off now so rather than lsiting every internet store, I will be baking for teahcers Christmas gifts LOL(not for poor ds3, doesn't break up until 22nd))

morningpaper · 17/12/2009 10:23

I think generally vouchers were not "encouraged" but it was more an idea of passing on good things we have to others

Not to say you can't do it, just wouldn't want to pressure people down that route

MrsBrendanCole · 17/12/2009 10:36

Mumoverseas -

Im not a big fan of gift vouchers and have collected some small things anyway that could suit anyone, i was hoping to post them and whatever else I could get today.

I only have time to nip to our local shops anyway, not even a high street to be honest, but having said that, i guess gift vouchers may have to do.

Thanks

mumoverseas · 17/12/2009 10:38

but at least with vouchers the mums (or dads!) can choose exactly what they think their DC would like.

22nd! gosh that is late. DS broke up yesterday and DD tomorrow

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 17/12/2009 10:44

well I offered vouchers - as I don't actually have anything to pass on (with 3 DS's - the oldest of who has just had a birthday so only just got new stuff for his age) everything is still in "hand down" stage.

Plus I have enough trouble knowing to buy for my own children let alone trying to gauge for someone elses.

I love getting vouchers for my DS's - and they love it too.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 17/12/2009 10:45

A few more matches gone out.

Had power cut this morning so no internet access until 5 mins ago, and now have to pop to GPs (possible complications following my loop-diathermy), so sorry MrsBC, your match will be later today. But if you buy for a DS7 and a DD3 I will send you the details of your match later

Reindeerinmygardenwhatelfisnew · 17/12/2009 11:05

Well I was in town yesterday and as it is my only opportunity I got a voucher - hope that will be ok.

MegBusset · 17/12/2009 11:55

Have just got back from town, was mad! Can't send anything til the new year now so rush for my match.

MegBusset · 17/12/2009 11:59

I mean NO rush obviously!

FabIsGettingReadyForChristmas · 17/12/2009 13:14

Norma - I don't know if you saw my post about I have bought gifts already so just need someone to send them too. Good luck at the Doctors.

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 17/12/2009 13:18

MP you're right but I think we had the option, IIRC I offered a carte blanchewhatever is needed for the most awkward person to match. We don't really have much to pass on- 4 boys does rather kill the handmedowns LOL

Just trying to think of anything else that could help so norma doesn't get questions as she really needs a break once the matches are out.

Wrapping policy- that always comes up doesn't it?

What was it- wrap if you really wish, but in apst years best practice has been to leave unwrapped so Mum can see what's been sent, and I put (when I remember) paper /tape in with it.

Are there any other things that can be sorted early on? Try and streamline things.

Hulababy · 17/12/2009 13:56

Thank you Fletch. I have recieved my match. The parcel is now boxed up and I have organised courier to collect from me tomorrow. Think it is a 3 day delivery service - so should be with my receipient before Christmas.

mumoverseas · 17/12/2009 14:53

as long as the courier isn't BA

MrsBrendanCole · 17/12/2009 14:54

Norma, in your post on here, you said DS7 and DD3 but in my email you said something different, could you just clarify it for me?

Thanks, hope docs went well and you're doing a sterling job!

bellavita · 17/12/2009 14:56

Hula - can I ask how you organised the courier? Is it just a case of ringing them up and saying you have a parcel to get to x place - how do they know how much it will be - do you have to weigh it yourself? or do they charge a flat fee?

NormaStanleyFletcher · 17/12/2009 14:58

Back from docs, checked out OK, but now have to take ABs, one of which is a no alcohol one, so that will make christmas fun!

Have to do work for a couple of hours, will send out more matches later

OP posts:
Hulababy · 17/12/2009 15:00

I used InterParcel.

I was going to just go to the PO but know it is closed today, so went online - was much cheaper too, was at least half the rpice.

I typed in the parcel weight and dimensins, it gave me price, I paid with CC (ca be DC or PP too) and printed off the labels. I got to chose collection date and rough time too. They are coming tomorrow.

Here - they don#t just quote for themselves either - they compare lots of different couriers and you can book via there too.

Hulababy · 17/12/2009 15:01

lol mumoverseas

bella - yes, I weighed it myself

mumoverseas · 17/12/2009 15:04

hula sense of humour has to be the last thing to go

norma glad all ok but bugger ref ABs. Hope you feel a bit better soon and can hit the bottle again after Christmas

NormaStanleyFletcher · 17/12/2009 15:08

Mrs BC

What I said on here. The rest was a typo, I was trying to get out of the door to the Docs on time (So I could then sit and wait for ages).
