an Itouch instead.
I could cry.
I had a bit of spare cash this christmas and spnt £320 on a laptop for DS1, I dont normally spen that much but i thought it would be a great present, educational as well as fun.
I bought it about 6 weeks ago.
Now he tells me he wants an Itouch, half the bloody price of a laptop.
Am so upset as I cant change the laptop as I have opened it all up to check it etc, but am dreading his disappointment on Xmas day when he doesnt get what he asks for...

How old is he?

Is he old enough to explan?

He may well have change dhis mind simply because he thinls a laptop is out of the question, and giving you a less expensive option.

I am sure he won't be disappointed with getting a laptop over an iTouch.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 30/11/2009 21:56

Then tell him now that he isn't getting an iTouch because you've already bought him something else. If you've got some games for the laptop I bet he'll be chuffed to bits with it.

PandaEis · 30/11/2009 21:56

dont worry about it!! i would bet that if he opens his present to find a laptop that he would be thrilled!! how old is he??

my DD has asked for a dolls house, which i bought her and has now changed her mind and has asked for something else...i got a good deal on the dolls house so im not taking it back so she will have to lump it she is nearly 4 by the way and well into IWANTIWANTIWANT phase

brimfull · 30/11/2009 21:58

He's 9 and knows that we buy the presents, I will explain to him.
I know he will be pleased with laptop, he keeps nicking mine.
I am being silly, but like most Mums I jsut want to be able to give them everything they ask for

I know this is probably a bit mean, but could you subtly 'talk up' how great laptops are, get him to look at some online etc? It might turn his thoughts back to the idea. Tell him you've heard that iPod Touch break really quickly and don't work very well?

SixtyFootDoll · 30/11/2009 22:06

thanks Tidey
I know it will all be fine
It s just the thought of spending al that money on something that wont be appreciated makes me feel sick
Just wanted to vent a bit thanks for listening guys

This is why I never shop early! I haven't really started yet. Maybe he will be thrilled - probably he has changed because he thinks he won't get a laptop.

Maize · 30/11/2009 22:15

He will be so excited to open it that he will forget about the other thing.

A laptop is an ACE present.

CarGirl · 30/11/2009 22:15

I'm not sure I'd want my 9 year old to be able to access the internet on their phone as and when they want to.....laptop much safer unless you give them wireless!

Hulababy · 30/11/2009 22:15

He'll love it.

We got 7y DD a pink netbook computer for her birthday and she loves it and it gets lots of use. And I no longer have to share!
