She's in year 6 and we weren't planning to get her one until she moves to secondary school. However we are moving after Christmas so I thought it would be nice for her to keep in touch with her friends here. I really don't know what features if any she'd want/need. Do I go for something basic or with a camera and mp3 player? I don't want her to have anything that will be top end and therefore stolen, but I don't want her to be the kid with the naff phone.

Camera and bluetooth are essentials. Cool looks are also pretty important - I'll ask my dd when Merlin's over what's the coolest at the moment!

Thank you Seeker - I don't want her to have the 'wrong' one, especially as she'll be the new kid at school.

DD was desperate for a pink touch phone.

And purely on that basis we've bought dd a Samsung Tocco lite - in pink.

I have no techie info to provide at all .

Cheapest I've seen so far is £69 at Tesco when you spend over £40 there. Others are around £79 plus top up.

Getting a phone for my dd too. She has had hand-me-downs so far... She also wants a pink touch phone so I'll take a look at that Samsung one. I'm also going to look at the LG Cookie

LG cookie and Tocco lite are both popular for that age range - but are also expensive enough that you would be anooyed if the phone was lost or damaged or stolen imo

I've just bought the vodafone touch in pink for £40 for my 9 yo DD as her first phone. She won't be taking it to school though
