Homemade Christmas Gifts that you can post?

Hi All,

Money is tight but also thought I'd like to give some original presents this year as DD who is 7 is very arty/creative and thought we could make our own presents this year and spend some quality time with each other before baby no 2 arrives in January!

Does anyone have any ideas for things that we could make that are postable or can last for a few days at least? (I love all the cake/biscuit ideas but I'm worried about how long they would survive under the Christmas tree!)

Any advice would be much appreciated!

How about buying cheap hard backed notebooks from somewhere and then recovering in glorious fabrics / papers etc- very durable, very nice to own.

Or you could cover them in DD's own drawings?

She could personalise them for each person.

I'll keep thinking...

Have a look at Baker Ross or Yellow Moon sites. These sell loads of crafty-type its - and will give you loads of ideas. Lots of ways to personalise gifts etc

Bookmarks were surprisingly well received last year. Very light too. We used lolly sticks and stuck on cut out foam shapes etc and glitter.

DD (7 y/o) is making papier mache bowls to decorate this year - her plan is to buy sweets with her pocket money to put in them.
A couple of years back we made papier mache pig money boxes which worked remarkably well (she painted them pink rather than using tissue paper). I had to help a bit with building up the layers as dd (then 5) got bored after a few layers, but she did all the initial work, and then the legs/snout/painting etc.
I've also got some nice ideas from the Usborne Rainy day things to co cards, including decorating boxes (cover a small cardboard box in white glue all over, stick on torn up pieces of tissue paper to cover, then pictures of flowers or whatever cut from magazines, then when dry finish off with another layer of diluted white glue 'varnish').
