My nearly 6 yr old ds wants a chemistry set . Is this is a bad idea ?

I have no idea what would be suitable for his age group and I always remember being a bit dissapointed at mine when I was wee .

Please tell me they are a bit better and what would you recommend ?

I would be more inclined to look in a book shop or Amazon and find a book that does science at home, with fun things like volcanoes out of vinegar and baking soda.
Or google 'science experiments for kids' or similar and see what you get.

We've got an Usbourne Book "100 Science Experiments". (Ds has just turned 6.) Full of great ideas which aren't too complicated to do.
