We went to Bluewater last year - not exactly central London but OK if you live south. It was free and they got a really good book as a present.

Just checked and they now charge a £1.50 booking fee.

The best one we ever went to in London was on the Cutty Sark in Greenwich - you saw Father Christmas in a cabin on the ship, rather than a purpose built 'Grotto', and the boys really enjoyed it.

We went to Westfield in Shepherds Bush last year. Here

Ds, 7 at the time, said it was 'a bit lame' but dd, 3 at the time, enjoyed it.

Was free, but with a token/sneaky booking fee.

Will try to book again this year just for dd as she says she wants to see him again.

They just got a little reindeer soft toy and then the option of buying a photo taken with Him - which actually wasn't too expensive.

Cutty Sark sounds great! But unfortunately it's still closed for a refurb.

Ohhh sorry - I'm out of touch since we moved north, but I should have remembered - wasn't there a fire or something?

CocoK · 18/11/2009 08:59

Yes, it burned with extensive damage (apparently because a hoover short circuited while the security guards had gone walkabout, falsifying their inspection records! Now what would Santa have to say about that?!).

They'll definitely be on the Naughty list, CocoK. [more in sorrow than in anger emoticon]
