Who remembers the Tesco chriistmas delivery booking fiasco?

Was it last year?

We all cheated the Tesco system and booked our slots early and then had them all cancelled and some people even had their knuckles rapped on the phone

I see that I can book up to 7th December currently. Anyone know when we'll be able to book a christmas delivery for this year? Do they open a week at a time, or does it go day by day?

Usually use Ocado and have had christmas slots available for ages on there but need to book a slot for my mum as she will be away.

possibly 3-4 weeks in advance, try at end of month xx

shoptilidrop · 17/11/2009 12:33

yes, i remember it! i got a phone call and the slot changed.

i asked the delivery driver last week, he said it would be the same as normal, so 3 weeks in advance, released daily.

So we will all be sitting up to midnight again this year.

Ha ha. I was soo thrilled when I managed to get the delivery booked so early. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at Tesco when they realised what had happened. I wonder if they ever found out how we were all tipped off about it?

I got rather tipsy as I waited up for the slot to be freed, I think. My computer was on it's last legs and I was worried it would pass out before I made the booking.

I don't remember this - what happened?

DaftApeth · 17/11/2009 14:58

After some searching, I found it here.

Could take some time to read though

I joined the mumsnet cheat, booked my slot Xmas eve I think - food delivered no probs and didn't get a telling off! (phew!)

Won't be chancing it again this year, waiting up until midnight it is then...

JodieO · 20/11/2009 18:22

I've done mine already, booked the slot a few days ago. Did the same last year and they didn't say anythign to me, it all turned up.

DaftApeth · 20/11/2009 20:07

They must have sussed us last year because we all did it en-masse.

Did you do it the 'cheat way' again Jodie?

Not sure I'll risk it this year. I'll be up drinking with you then DippyDino

i do my christmas shop online with sainsburys. tesco's are far too unreliable for my liking (4 dc, no car, no dp/h etc), they have messed up too many of my normal weekly orders fr me to consider using them for christmas food. oh, and my mum, despite working for them, and shooping there every single week for the last 8 years, never gets a priority booking slot

JodieO · 20/11/2009 20:53

It was there and available for me to book so as far as I'm concerned it's not "cheating", they should emply better staff to work on the website as if they dont' want the slots booked they shouldn't be able to be booked iyswim.

I did it last year and the one before (I think) and didn't have a problem with either.

fatzak · 21/11/2009 09:26

I got caught out too! I was so smug about it and going on to DH about how organised I was being when he grimaced and admitted that Tesco had called a couple of weeks before to cancel to the slot! Not sure what happened but somehow I ended up re booking the very slot that had been cancelled!

Will just venture into the big bad world of real life supermarkets this year - but only late at night when it will be less mad.

I tried doing this and have had a phone call about half an hour ago cancelling the order - checked my account and the order has disappeared - Oh well, was worth a try
