So what are you all buying your 4.5/5 year old ds?

Ds wants a watch, a 2 wheel scooter and Ben 10 stuff ... other people in the family will buy those but I haven't got a clue what to buy him from us! I prefer not to buy him tv character stuff from us (other than stocking bits or PJs etc) as he will no doubt grow out of his Ben 10 phase and into something else. What are your ds' into at the moment?

bodiddly · 14/11/2009 13:06

meccano and knex sound like a good idea .. not sure if he would master meccano on his own though! He saw an advert for the new guess who extra game earlier and seemed keen for that .... that is the sort of thing his aunt or my mum might get though!

4 year old ds is getting:-

wooden castle with knights
lego
lightsaber
Connect 4
Gator golf
Spiderman personalised book
inflatable globe
playdoh
bakugans

from family he is also getting:-
Ben 10 pyjamas/slippers
Batman batmobile
toy guitar
torch/nightlight
Lego city helicopter

I agree that branded stuff is often rubbish but he loves it and plays/talks about it with his friends so bit unfair of me not to buy it because I don't like it!!

Also, as far as the ds debate goes we have just bought the Peppa Pig game for dh's for ds to play with and he loves it - I don't see how it is any different to all the Leapster stuff around targeted specifically at preschoolers.

my 4.5 year ds is getting from us playmobil police station, some playmobil policemen and a theif and a dr's kit as thats what he asked for and we are thinking about getting him boxes of lego bricks and bases from the lego website as he has 2 tubs for lego but neither came with much lego.

Maybe I should just go for something that he is really interested in ... arts and crafts stuff? I could place a mass order with Baker Ross perhaps ...

ilovethebeach: I'm possibly getting my ds this castle, which is cheaper than the Playmobil one, and has a dungeon, for his birthday. Op: For Christmas, he's getting a Bigjigs Grand Central Station, a viaduct for his wooden railway, a Flying Scotsman locomotive for it, some books and some dolls people for his dolls house play house. Also a little tool set and some books. And a jumper, if I ever finish it. He's just gone 4.5.

Wideratthehips are the Darda cars good? Saw them on Cox&Cox website (where they are much more expensive than Letterbox) and though they looked fab but they are quite £££ and DH also wonders if they'll be a 5 minute wonder?

There seems to be a lot of Hotwheels being bought here but I was under the impression it's not very good?

wideratthehips · 15/11/2009 22:27

TheHouseofMirth

they are incredibly expensive aren't they?...unfortunately there is no other supplier in the UK. on Amazon.com you can get loads of different tracks and they are reasonably priced.

worth it...well i'm going to go with my husbands thumbs up....theres not many toys that were that good from your childhood...but he says the little cars were so fast and he loved it so much.

my ds has the hotwheels drop track that you put over a door and he loves that

wideratthehips · 15/11/2009 22:29

hotwheels v drop
