What do you put in your DC's stockings?

This Christmas my DS will be 23 months. Last year his stocking had some bath books, puppets and wooden cars.

My DH comes from a family that really 'do' stockings, lots of little toys,sweets, books, mugs all sorts but my family only ever did the sort of stockings that involved shoving 3 random presents in a stocking that could be some bath stuff from my Aunt, a DVD and a jumper.... basically the 3 closest things!

I'm trying to do DS's now (early I know) but torn between the 2 totally different ideas. So far he has

Little People Tractor and Ambulance
2 wooden puzzles
A Talking Postman Pat
Wooden pop up penguins
Duplo Fire Engine
2 Schliech animals

Is this a rubbish effort, should I keep the bigger things as proper pressies and get some more 'stocking filler' type stuff or is he too young for that?

We did stocking filler type things for dd2 last year . BUt only cheap, little things

toothbrush
toothpaste
satsuma
apple
milky bar buttons
hair slides and bobbles
crayons
bath toys

about 5 items from Hawkins' bazaar for the older dcs, then each dc has a shiny coin, satsuma and choclate coins in the bottom

santa doesn't do big pressies in the stockings - it's all unwrapped little fun things

I love Hawkins Bazaar!

it's a treasure trove for stocking fillers...we get a few things from there and fill the rest of the stocking with similar small itemds - hot wheels cars, a small inexpensive book, flannels (that you put in water to open out).

Up to you how you do the stockings, but yours sounds fine. If you want to move onto smaller stocking-y filler things in future, though, I wouldn't wait longer than next year to bring it in or ds will get used to having bigger things in the stocking and then be disappointed when one year it's little things!

See I LOVE the one my MIL and PIL made me last year, it was just so fun... all these little things, I adored it.

I just wonder if I can give him small things, I mean without him trying to eat them

I've got him a Colour Wonder thing so may put that a stocking with the animals figures, pop up penguins and puzzles and then a satsuma, pack of apple chunks etc to try an make it more stocking fun.

Didn't do a stocking for DS last year, he was only 10 months! (in fact, we barely did pressies for him at all, because a) we were rather skint and b) his adoring grandparents were going all out on their new grandchild, but that's another story.) This year, he'll be 22 months and I think he might actually like opening a small stocking, and I'd like to start the tradition, so I'm thinking:

Small train/car type thing.
Melamine mug with something he likes on it.
A couple of small zoo or farm animals.
Stickers
New flashing toothbrush
Packet of choc buttons
Satsuma

Mine (21mo and 3.6) will have things like Matchbox cars, small books, Playmobil knights (ds1), chocolate, soft toy (ds2), socks

mine will have, an apple and satsuma, a bag of choc coins, an xmas lolly, new pants, socks, a finger puppet, pencils, christmas lip balm, new toothbrush, glue stick,hand cream for the girls and tin of deodorant for the boys, and a teddy in the top
