I'm struggling big time to think of ideas for my 6 yeard old DS. He had his Birthday last week and got loads of new toys.

He has already got lots of character figures, lego, KNEX, books, bike etc.He has also got a leapster console and a kids camera and I am not keen on upgrading them yet to a DS LITE or real camera.

He is mad on dinosaurs, but I want to try and move away from that theme as he already has so many dino related toys and books !

So please can you share with me what you are hoping to buy your DS for Xmas to help give me inspiration ?

Thanks !

we have a similar dilema,
so I am going to have a look at some space toys,
we have knights and castles, dinosaurs, lego, pirates, cars but no space toys.

My 6yo ds wants the brown overcoat from Dr Who ... try and source that one, Santa

NancyBotwin · 07/11/2009 18:12

I have no idea - he wants a DSi but is not getting one (he has a hand-me-down DS already anyway!)

He also would probably say he wanted some Power Rangers/Ben 10/Transformer toy if he saw one in a catalogue but doesn't seem to play with them when he gets them...

He mostly plays with Lego (we already have loads), Planet Protectors from ELC (he has everything in the range) or makes up games with his cuddly toys.

I am really stumped at the moment.

He has got into Dr Who recently so could go for something related to that but don't want to just some plastic gimmiky thing...

I'm getting mine GX racers. He has loads of hotwheel cars but these are a bit different.

IdrisTheDragon · 07/11/2009 18:20

I am getting very nearly 6 year old DS the lego police station.

For his birthday (15 days time I am reminded by the birthday countdown DS) he is getting a two wheeled scooter, some lego and two remote controlled cars

NancyBotwin · 07/11/2009 18:25

I did think about some sort of cars on track thing - there is a Hotwheels one half price at Tesco at the moment - I am just rather selfishly thinking of how much space it will take up!

Either Playmobil dolphin pool. Or this

RedLentil · 07/11/2009 18:43

Some kind of lego star wars ship (one of the smaller ones-he doesn't mind which) as he is obsessed with lego. He has quite a bit already, but it makes him so happy that more of it is fine with me.

I have picked up lots of bits of things like small lego and science kits in tesco when they've been on offer to pad things out.

He is a naive modest chap, and can't think of anything he wants from his grandparents or godmother.

He goes to a small village school and as there are only 3 boys in the class and the mums are in cahoots we have kept the nintendo ds at bay.

He'd like a game for the wii though too, and I'm not sure what would be a good one.

NancyBotwin · 07/11/2009 18:45

RL - my older Ds is after the new Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics one. There is a Lego Star wars game too if you don't already have it.

NancyBotwin · 07/11/2009 19:10

I've just taken a look at the Playmobil thread and there are a couple of ideas there - my d has not shown much interest in Playmobil so far but I've seen a couple of things on that thread that might interest him....

if you are looking for wii games there are some on the littlewoods site and the code ZQ266 gives you £25 off with no minumum spend.

bigchris · 07/11/2009 21:09

ben ten alien force vehicle that comes with figures

getting nearly six yr old nephew batman figure, chainsaw something or other, lol

RedLentil · 07/11/2009 21:10

Thanks nancy and greyskull. I'll go and investigate.

The thread prompted me to pootle around the lego site, and after a chat with ds we've agreed that there is a lot more going on in the lego city coastguard/police ones than the star wars ones.

I'd been putting off investigating so this thread has given me motivation, tips and discounts.
